so I was wondering if anyone had heard of or tried this?

I looked up the 1st part and found it for $35 but the 2nd ones part number didnt match up to the description but either way it looks like you could get about a 2" extention for $50 instead of the $350 for tech2's shifter extention and from what I've read up on 2" should be sufficent enough to work or possibly with a slight massage of the shifter hole

The extention is normally done to SC's and MKIV supra's.

After you have the engine mounted to where you want it. Measure it out. Might as well be exact on.
