There will be a lot of custom parts that you will need to fabricate. It has been done, but not by many. You will probably want to check out hybridz.org to get an idea of what it takes. If you are not a custom fabricator I'd suggest you steer clear of this project. An RB26 swap would be much easier...but even still I know of someone who has done it and said they would just keep the VG30 if they had to do it over again. For the amount of time work and money that go into a custom swap you could have a damn powerful VG30dett

You can use a Supra 6-spd transmission ($$$$$) or you can use 5-spd Toyota Soarer transmission like I did. Bolts right up to the 2JZ and fits right at the stock location and it's still a 5-spd

I would go with the 2jz over the 1jz. The 1jz uses ceramic impellars on the exhaust turbine. It has an upper limit of 1 bar max boost. That is about 14.7lbs. They ceramic impellars tend to come apart over time as well and are very hard to find.

Also, the fan setup on the 1jz is elaborate, cool and a pita. The cooling fan isn't electric or belt driven, it's a "hydro-fan." The water pump on the 1jz also turns an oil pump that drives the hydro-fan. The fan is amazing and far superior to any mechanical or electric fan I have seen. It puts out something like 6000cfm.

However, the pumps are only available from Japan and cost over $700.
