so i found the original window sticker from the dealer the other week, and it says that the 2000 Maxima average highway miles should be 28 mpgs...i've not heard of ANY 5th gen Maxima's getting that from their wheels.

is anyone here getting close to that?

I dont get anywhere close to that in the city, but on the highway I average ~25-30. I have a 99, pretty much the same

damn...the most miles i've ever gotten out of one tank was 415 miles...arent our tanks 18 gallons??...that's only 23.05 mpgs.

i saw a 2000 Nissan Maxima commercial on youtube that states 510miles from one tank of gas...thats 28mpgs...how did i loose 5mpgs?

CAI + STILLEN Muffler + lightweight Rays Engineering rims? I got better mileage after installing the CAI...but i'm gonna swap the exhaust back to stock today and fill the tank to see if there is a difference.

should i run narrower tires that the 245/45/18 i've got on their now?

My I35 is stock and is right on the money. Edmunds says City-17, highway-24, combined 20mpg. I'm getting 25-29mpg on the highway, and getting 18-22mpg combined.

would the injen CAI or the Stillen Short Ram(hot air) do better? I had the Stillen Short Ram air on there when i bought it...but i got pulled over by a cop and was given a "verbal warning"(intimidated) that if i didn't swap out my performance parts back to stock he would pull me over again and impound my car...and living in a small town i had to do it b/c i drive by the police station EVERYDAY...soooo i purchased the Fed & CA CARB Legal CAI.

does hotter intake air give better MPG's?

the stock intake was proven to be the best "middle" between power and mpg. also you live in cali ( ) which has crappy fuel.

btw you can be modded as hell and the cop can't give you any problems because of that - as long as it's all street/cali ( ) emission legal.

btw2 your drop is not street legal

Got a 2000 I30. I drive 75 miles a day back and forth to work 50% hwy 50% city.I can get 410 mi before the gas light turns on. Light always comes on at 3 gallons left. 410/15.5=26.45mpg. 87 octane. Also my service engine light is on cause of bank one slow response, o2 sensor.16X6.5 Mich pilot A/S sport 225/50 36psi

how many gallons does the 2000-2001 max hold in its fuel tank? i'm seeing 18 and 18.5 in google search :/

i've got the stock muffler installed :-/ i guess i could install the stock intake too, and top her tank off and see how much difference there is compared to what i was getting with the performance upgrades.

My max has no problem getting 28mpg on the highway.

I think where you are running into a problem is that you're dividing the number of miles driven by 18. I've never driven my car to the point the tank is bone dry. Next time reset your trip odo when you fill up. Then at your next fill up divide the number of miles driven by the amount of fuel it takes to fill the tank back up. Mine is usually around 16 gallons.

oh...thanks for the i needed that.

i'm still gonna install the stock intake and see where its at...then put the performance parts back on and see the difference

taking out the Stillen Muffler allowed me to polish it up with some #0000 steel wool...it was looking horrible. It looked sooo bad that i couldnt see it was polished stainless steel :/ ...it looked light brown

That 28mpg number is likely prior to the adjusted EPA numbers coming out. My '01 I30 is currently rated at 17/24. On the highway cruising I have hit 30mpg, but normally in mixed driving I'm around 22-24.

i got my stock intake installed today, and the stock exhaust installed a few days ago...i'm gonna top off the tank and restart my trip. i'll probably fill her back up at 1/2 tank and do the calculations.

so far by installing the stock exhaust i gained a few mpgs

I dunno, I have a 6speed '04. I average 23.1 in mixed driving. On a trip to and back from my house to Atlantic City, (2hrs each way) I averaged 30.7 mpg. I was mostly cruising at 80mph in 6th

lets see how long it takes me to get to a 1/2 tank!!

if i was to install the 300ZX fuel injectors wouldn't i loose MPG's?

since they flow more than your stockers (afaik) than yes. but what's the point on an untuned na motor?

16.601 Gallons = 369.5 miles = 22.26 mpg average

95% of my driving was freeway, I did minimal hard acceleration and coasted downhill as often as possible...and my mileage still SUCKS...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------before this test I got the best mileage driving back from Ventura to San Diego at 1am averaging my freeway speed at 95mph...i made it all the way home without seeing a single cop...200 miles

i got better mpg with my Injen Intake and Stillen Stainless Exhaust installed on the Max
