Hi,

I am an owner of two Datsuns 280ZX located in Poland, Europe. I'm currently finishing restoration of one of them, and I stood to a problem of getting the AC working. Sadly, in both of my cars the AC compressor is stuck, therefore I'm in need of restoration. I've contacted local workshops, and they are willing to do it, however critical parts are not available. Both my Datsuns have Hitachi MJ167 compressors, and I'm in need of finding shaft seal for it. I've been looking in the shops in USA as well, but didn't find it anywhere... Is there something I don't know? I'm seeking for some advice there, maybe there is some easy replacement from another car, or some other shaft seal fits the MJ167? How do you guys fix this compressor in the USA? ;)

Thanks for help in advance!

Good evening too you. As much as I would love to help you get that compressor working for you the unfortunate thing is no parts for that compressor are available anymore. Not even the compressor. Now there is a replacement available for a 134a convvertion from Z Car Source but being in Europe idk what refrigerant would be used. Also the kit is $1100 before shipping here in the US. Hope that helps.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for response! Actually, in US, those compressors are available new:
http://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/fs/#/vehicl ... 414?type=s
http://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/fs/#/vehicl ... 415?type=s
However, it is ~250$, and with shipping, taxes, it's a bit too much for me, especially my compressor has 120kkm on it.

Does it mean that everyone goes on AC compressors from scrap yard, and nobody suceeded restoring such compressor?

They are only available as a repair and return item from Four Seasons in the US. There is one on Rock Auto for the 1979-80 models, but it is not a direct fit for your cars. I may have a rebuilt unit on in my spares, but I will need to look. The price to ship it would be as much as the compressor itself.
