the 75-78 280Z's all had N42 block dished pistosn L28's, the 75 got the desirable N42 head and the latterr ones got the less desirable N47, basically the same except the N47 has restrictive sleaves in the exahaust runners, but the N42 block is accepted and the strongest block as all 6 cylinders are siameased together, these were all around 8.5:1 IIRC

the 280zx all got the F54 block, the 79-80 got the lower comrpession dished pistons wiht the high low compression P79 head aso with sleaved exhaust runners, these were around 8.0:1 IIRC the 81-83 n/a gto flat top pistons in the same F54 block with the same P79 head, these were arounf 9.0:1 IIRC int he F54 only every other cylinder is siameased

the 81-83 turbo came with the F54 block with low compression dished pistons and a low compression P90 head, but these had no linders int he exhaust runners, these were 7.3:1

I'm going form memory n the comrpession ratio, if you google L2 engine calculator you can download all the variables, with propper engine managment any of them can support a turbo to a certain point

yes they are all interchangable, the P90 is ideal for a turbo application as ti has the larger combustion chamber and therefore the lower compression ratio, some people will shave the P90 and shim up the cam towers to get a higher compression with a better chamber design for n/a motors, the N42 is the most popular n/a option and has been used quite a bt on turbo applications as it's combustion chamber coupled with dished pistons is still a turbo friendle compression ratio

here is a downloadable L series engine calculator so you can play with CR's and suchhttp://forums.hybridz.org/atta...48817

and here is a much mroe advanced calculator in whihc you cna calculate for custom pistons etc and includes many mroe nissan engine parts and many more calculations such as rod angle and rod speedhttp://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/enginedesign/

none

if you are running an N42 block, forged pistosn are avaialbe in many defferetn compression heights/volume/dish's, comboned with a P90 you can get wahtever ompression ratio you want by altering the pistons
