I'm a little confused as to what it is that you are asking. Stock replacements are available at just about any parts store, online supplier or specialty supplier. If you're wanting to convert to an internally regulated alternator there were a couple of specialty suppliers selling plug and play solutions. Or you can runt he 280ZX alternator and add some resistors to the voltage regulator socket or there was a plug and play adapter sold through one of the specialty suppliers. http://datsunpartsllc.com/cart/index.ph ... 6&parent=7

I know where to get an alternator, my question was if anyone had a step by step guide on how to do it. Doesn't seem too tricky, but i don't want to mess anything up. Thanks for your advice though.

It depends on which alternator you are using, there is the plug and play unit that requires nothing more than unplugging the voltage regulator. Or if you do the S130 or GM. Here si a write up on using the S130 alternator in a 280Z http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/alte ... index.html

All I'm doing is the stock alternator for the time being. That's my problem I can't find any DIY's for that. Can't be too hard I just want to do everything right

You are looking for a write up on replacing the stock alternator with a stock replacement?

Disconnect the battery, disconnect the alternator, unbolt the alternator. Installation is reverse of removal, be sure to tension the belt, done.

I just bolted up a 01-0039 gm alternator making it a one wire (f to +bat) and it literally bolted directly into the car (pulley depth and stock bracketry) mine is a 79, but I don't assume it will be any different.
