280 ZX noise

I bought an 1983 280ZX and when the car is parked and swiched off there is a ticking sound. It stops if I press the brake pedal or disconnect the battery. Since the battery was dead when I bought it I'm assuming that this is the cause. Anyone have a suggestion?

Digital clock ticking? Sorry but I can't imagine anything electrical that will tick and is affected by the brakes? Start pulling fuses, one at a time, see if you can isolate the circuit that is causing the issue. Start with the power seats. The only thing I can think that would click is a stuck switch on a window, seat, mirror etc, if you are in the car and press the brake pedal it might hold the seat so it can't click.
