NICOmom's Q needed new tires - Wanted some additional sidewall (to protect the rims) and some good load rating (for durability and long life), as well as great traction, without sacrificing too much in the handling department...

Previously had 255/40/18 Pirelli P-Zero, but my "supply" of those dried up... Priced out some comparable tires in that size, as well as 265/40, but they're damn pricey... But, step up one more size, and POW! The price drops by $70 a tire.

So, with a little persuasion at the tire shop, Quella is now shod with BFG KDW's on all four corners, 275/40/18... Required a little massaging of the inner fenderwells and lip, but she sits perfectly now.

Ride is fantastic, quiet and smooth - A little loss of "twitchiness", but a lot more comfortable over rough pavement and fabulous at high speeds...

Despite the added sidewall height, these seem to bite in corners just as well as the Pirellis, with the exception of a fraction of a second of hesitation before they "dig in".

Anyhow, thought I'd throw up some pics - Hope none of our "stretched tire club" is eating dinner right now.

Looks like that took some serious rolling.

Great to stretch the envelope. Wondering about 275/35-18 now.

They look really beefy. I love that look. Two things. 1. The price of 275s vs. 255s at tirerack did not go down. I checked 6 makers BFG, Continental, Michelin, Dunlop, Bridgestone and Pirelli. They all pretty much stay around the same price or go up instead of $70 down. You probably have some sort of deal with a supplier or something.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...&y=13h ... s/...t=All

2. Are those wheels 7.5" or are they the "premium package" ones which I'm not sure if they are 8" or not?

Well, Quella's still got the look!

What's with the GS Lex on the chrome 17 inch G-Coupe wheels?

ddrumman - they are the 8" Premiums.

Tg - the GS in the background belongs to Paul, who took the great pics.

I'm liking the "fat tire" look on the G50.

A lot of GS430/400 owners opt for the "fat tire" set up on their cars. I like the stance from the rear...

They look like pillows, I bet the ride is very plush. Pretty wild you fit 275's in the front.

Makes me think of the Husky jeans I used to wear as a kid .

I'd like to see some 265/35's on a 9.5 tire in the rear .

Lookin good, Greg. Let me know how you like the BFG's I might be going to those next. I put two on the front of Layla a week before I sold her, so I didn't get to do much testing.

Can you light them up?

Of course....

Not as easy to boil as the 245/50/16's were, but coming out of a corner I can still get 'em cookin' enough to hang her big a$$ out sideways.
