That is exactly what Deastchwerks does. All they do is resize the orifice. But keep in mind it isn't nearly as easy as I just made it sound, so I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself unless you have some really impressive equipment.

I have an extra set of 270's in the garage. I'm going to try this and see what I get. I bet that with a set of finger files (used for carb jet work) I can get them honed out to around 650cc/min.

The trick will be to get each one equal in flow. I'm betting that so long as I use the same file on each injector, with the same tolerences, the flow rates will be very very close to the same.

I'll use the SAFC to see how much I have to dial back to achieve a good AFR, then do some plug reading to see if any one injector is off compared to the others.

I'll post the outcome later. I would love to not have to spend another $300+ on larger injectors for the 400whp setup I'm building.

I think you guys are really over simplifying what is required of this job. You must oversize the 4 orifices in the injector pintle. But it must be done expertly. You have to not only make sure that all four injectors are the same, but that all four holes in each injector are the same (for the purpose of atomization). The only reason I am not more adament (sp?) is because they are spares. But still Deatschwerks pays 12 bux each for those after purchase, and will buy an infinite amount. They have the facilities, and I think you should let them do it. But hey, it's your business, I'm not your mom.

Chez is correct on this. After removing the pintle caps on two injectors, I found that there is no piston type pintle in the Nissan injector. So, once the cap is off, there's an exposed pintle needle and the orifice around it is open. The injector leaks without the cap.

However, Chez, the WRX stock injector DOES have a piston type pintle (actually a disc on the end of the needle) and this procedure DOES work on them. The stockers are 440cc and when the caps are removed, the injectors flow @ 740cc with a tight cone spray, according to NASOIC forum and RC Engineering. These injectors are also sidefeed, high impedence and I think they fit in our fuel rails. I'm still checking on the fitment right now.

Yes, you could open an orifice on that style, and so long as the size of the orifice was precise you could use them.

BTW, do you expect problems with atomization with the WRX injectors?

RC Engineering tested a set of the WRX injectors that were modified in this manner. They flow tested "good" and spray pattern was "good". Their rating of "good" is the best they offer, so it would be fine. It's a tight cone pattern.

As for our cars, you could nearly squirt a stream out of the injector, because of the placement of the injector and the angle at which the mixture enters the cylinder. It's nearly a straight shot. Once the fuel is in the combustion chamber, swirling and atomization are a moot point.

However, the NASOIC guys (Subaru) all say that they get incredibly smooth idle and more than acceptable operation when using the modified stock injectors.

I am going to purchase a set and modify them (if they go into our fuel rail) for 740cc. I'll post pics as I progress. It might be a couple weeks.

Not to mention hitting a hot valve.

No frickin wonder my deatchwerks 480s look exactly like my old 270s.Frell, as long as they flow like 480s I don't care.

On the nose. My 555's look the same way. But I have flow results, so I am good.
