I am wanting to upgrade my wheels on my 260 and i have been running into some problems.. i was wanting to put 17s on my car but idk if its possible.

how deep of a wheel will fit on sock suspension?
what kind of a off set will fit the wheels?
Is 17s even possible?
what size tires?

17x7 or 17x8 will fit in the correct offset (zero). I don't think you can get anything more than a 225 45 17 up front but thats still a large tire.

What about a negative offset?

If you run a negative offset on anything wider than a 7" wheel you'll have to cut out your fenders, also it increases your scrub radius, making the car harder to steer.

Might clear the suspension but will look weird unless you run spacers, about 1".

With a +25 and spacers you won't need flares. If you want to cut the body there is no limit, the car in my avatar has 17x12's out back with about a -25 offset and 17x11's up front with about the same offset, took a lot of cutting to get there but I also have coil overs with stock suspension the offset would need to be at least another 25mm negetive.

Dear evildky, will this also work for my 1976 280Z, the car is all stock right now. I want to put some R16 or R17 on it. I am more interested in the R16, I want the steering to be as smooth as possible. Please advice in tire size for front and back using 7" wheel front and 8" back on R16. Thanks.

Yup. The wheel fitment as most things are universal form 70-78 covering all 240Z, 260Z and 280Z. Door latches, Dash's, Bumpers these are some of the more obvious changes.

If I get a one inches spacer I will need to get longer lug studs correct?

Depends on the type of spacer, if you get slip on yes if you get bolt on no.

Opening an old post...

Would 17×9.75 with a +25 offset clear the rear suspention?

Also would 17x7 with a +35 offset clear the front?

Back would be close, fronts would need a spacer for sure.

If you have coil overs it might, but would almost definitely need flares in which case you can add more spacer if needed which I think you'd need more spacer in the rear.
