that's some valuable information here, thanks a bunch..

so waht's your take on Gucci Chrono?? is it total crap in the eyes of real watch collectors??

i have set my eyes on either a Gucci chrono, Movado with dimaond setup, Omega reduced, or Tag F1 ....

oh and.. do you have any ideas how much a Tag Aquaracer quartz chrono would cost???..i cant seem to find the pricing on the official website...
As far as pricing is concerned, I have found that the larger scale jewelry stores like Littmann's will periodically run sales on brands like Tag at a pretty nice discount. As you get closer to the holiday season, you will see more. Since I have not shopped for awhile for watches, I cannot say how much the Aquaracer goes for. The smaller jewelry stores will likely have a larger selection and you could compare brands side by side, since they would likely be licensed to carry more brands.

As far as the watches you mentioned, I would probably look more closely at the Tags or the Omega. I have also heard people have problems with their Movados. As far as Gucci is concerned, you could probably do better. But, like I said, it is a very personal decision. Like you have read in this post, many people view what is (or is not) on their wrist very differently. I love watches almost as much as I love cars. If I had more money, I would love to add to my collection.

Have fun while doing the shopping!! In your budget, you can do very nicely with the brands mentioned earlier, and have something that will last you for a long time and be very happy with.

Exactly!!!

I would just use the cell phone except I'm in business, sometimes it's nice to have a decent watch.

I still would not pay more then $100 - $500 for one though.

I personally like the Kenneth Cole watches.. they are nice and run about $170.

I would rather have an Iphone..

The Tag F1s are nice, but they aren't well-suited for dressing up IMO.

worth every penny i spent (which is actually mindblowingly low)

its titanium so it holds up to my work in saltwater and smacking it on tools car parts etc, yet is fancy enough for any formal occasion, no rusting and the titanium makes it lighter then any watch i've worn before or since of this quality, the eco drive part being a nice addon, never worrying about losing battery so quickly, and a good few hours in the sun runs it for MONTHS, but also charges under any lights.

mines an older model, but check them out. Sentient is right as far as their worth versus their cost.

Paying 2k for a quartz movement is seldom a good investment (there are exceptions, especially in ladies watches). When you get into the thousands for a watch, automatics are the way to go. If you like craftsmanship and precision, a handmade automatic is the ticket. That generally means a Swiss watch. Your budget presents a problem, though. Most Rado, Wiel, Movado, Gucci etc type watches are simply Japanese automatic movements in a fancy (although not necessarily high quality) case. Like sunglasses, you are paying for the name of the designer. If you look hard enough, you are going to find these watches heavily discounted which reflects their true value. Try that with a Rolex or Patek Phillipe...Tags are excellent watches, but not very "dressy". The Monza line of Tags are F1 racing inspired and are considered acceptable, even in a tuxedo, but they are pretty utilitarian looking.I know you said no used, but vintage watches are something to behold, if you are looking in the right brands and years. You can also really get ripped off. Use a reputable dealer for used watches and know there is NO shame in a quality and desirable vintage watch. If you insist on new, and simply can't wait, consider Omega (Speedmaster, Constellation) or Baume&Mercier (Copeland), You will probably need to stick with stainless steel.Either of these two brands will be heirloom quality that, with care, your great, great grandkids can wear. Also be aware that an automatic watch will require service every two to four years which costs between 300- 400 USD.You are about to get involved in a very addictive and expensive hobby. You have been warned. Many swiss watch makers are owned by Swatch. This conglomeration has produced some affordable watches, such as I suggested, but also some disdain among watch snobs. Fine, automatic watches are not about mass production. They are about amazing, handmade precision. Your budget has you caught between some very good quartz watches, well below what you are willing to spend and some extremely high-end time pieces way higher than what you want to shell-out. I know you told us not to tell you to wait, but save up some (at least another 3-4 grand) and...wait.Telco's advice about the 401k/investment might be a good choice, too, considering your age.

Yes!!! Tag, even Omega uses Japanese movements. That way they are mass produced, cheaper to manufacture and are good quality movements. Don't get me wrong, they are still good movements. They just spend their efforts on the design and manufacturing of the watch itself.

But, like heliochrome said, stick with the ones he mentioned and you can't go wrong.

Only the quartz watches which are not sought after by collectors, anyway.

hey sir.. thanks for your info.. . ... yeah i am actually leaning toward an automatic watch.. however.. i don't think i can get any real nice automatic watches with my budget...

with that being said... i will most likely look for a Speedmaster or Aquaracer series if possible...

thanks again :D

I have a tag f1 chrono and love it. It has the black face. I wear it with jeans and a t-shirt and with business casual. I'm 33. I think it is a great all around watch.

I also have a tag carrera chrono which is more then you want to pay but it is an awsome watch. Only wear it with slacks and dress shirts. It's a big watch with a great feel.

The tag f1 would fall in your price range.

I have a Tissot for a few years now. I think I had it on me maybe 10 times. I just use my cell to get the time.

Movado's a pretty watches, but their movement isn't anything special ... I have movado SE chrono, which I like and it gave me no issues for 4 years so far, as long as it gets polished once a year it keeps looking great .... I would vote for a TAG if I were buying it again though

as far as places to shop for watches, try ashford.com ... they aren't authorised retailor but their watches are real

My favorite watch is my Timex, i wear it to cut my grass, fix the G, biking and everything else that i know that i will get dirty . good luck.

I know the watches I have are cheaper than you're looking at, but I've only bought 1 kind of watch for the last 10 years... I believe I've picked up 6 FOSSIL watches, they are cheap, but have an 11 year warranty.

I beat the hell out of everything I own, so an expensive timepiece is silly for me to consider, I actually do like swiss watches, just don't want to ruin it after the first week.

Teflon... 1+ for the Infiniti watch... lol, we should see if we can get some custom NICO watches as well...
