1500 turbo set-up at 9psi will give you 220-240rwhp and that would be a stock rebuild. All you upgrade is fuel pump and injectors, and get a safc IIMost I seen out of a ka is around 170rwhp na. without going full race and spending more than a turbo setup

Shouldn't this be in KA24DE forum? Don't waste your time or money on NA, you will just be pissed and have a motor you have to constantly baby. IDK, why people think it will be more reliable, it requires that you spin it up to 8K all the time to make no power, wouldn't a little low end TQ be better since you are not always turning a bunch of R's? Food for thought.

good luck.... I have yet to see a 200rwhp n/a sohc...

and the amount of money dumped to make it over the 200 rwhp mark can easily be spent to make a boosted 300-400 hp dohc...

It can be done with the SOHC, it's the DOHC then has yet to be taken over 200. But either is a total waste of friggin money. Give me the same amount it takes you to hit 200 and I can make 400 with a turbo setup.

NA = GAY

To answer the OPs question:

While doing the rebuild, get some higher compression pistons (i had JE make me a set at 10.5:1), port and polish the head. Hell, i wish i woulda gotten larger valves installed, and been able to find light weight valve springs as well. A large camshaft is the best friend to high compression. At 8.6:1 stock, my motor did NOT like to idle with my Nismo 270* duration camshaft (stock is 228*), but it lopes like a big V8 and has never thought about dying since i rebuilt with 10.5:1.

I would also suggest tuning your own ECU. Check my car out in my sig, its all motor and i know im gettin around 180ish. Its a fun, torquey, quick revving motor with a lot of syle, if you ask me.

yeah sohc is kinda easy even with bolt ons to get close to 200, its this stupid de that I cant get over the hump. lol J/K

tuning of de has been revolutionized, well kinda. I have recently figured out how to tune the dohc motor with a stanza ecu yes an 8 bit ecu running a twin cam motor you say I say f*** yes. launch control up already and shift light in works next week. Not an issue just got to wire it. Hell since it reads the dizzy I am thinking about try a run at maf2map, soon. I'll be giving a "write up" of how it was done, once I am comfortable with evreything.

WD you should look into it, uber cheap ecu tuning for dohc. Alot of my jibber jabber can be found on deviouska's site. I'd like to take this time to say, my efforts were made possible by gabe. He owns yes with an o, without his research and free info, tuning would have been out the window let alone dohc motor on sohc ecu.

here is a pic of a sohc that was making either 320 or 270 horse power i cant remember. Of course this is a race motor in a scca car.

http://www.race-cars.com/carsa...j.htm

i think it would be easier to make big na horsepower from a sohc than a dohc ka. Just because of all the R/D done by the scca racers.

And $30k later, he has a car that makes as much horsepower and is much less usable than a turbo car for $3k.
