250 GTO kit help

I bought an unused 250 gto kit from the 80's I think.
can anyone tell me how you handle the Datsun quarter panels? The kit is one piece door to door.
The pockets prevent me from setting it on the car to size up. Do you cut for just the pockets or are you supposed to skeleton out the quarters?
Any expertise would be very appreciated.
