:wtf2: I'm planning on doing the 248/232 cam swap, and I've read everything I can get my hands on, but the whole timing thing is really confusing me. I'm willing to redrill cam gears, but I'm seeing people saying they did 3 teeth ccw or 4 teeth ccw but some people drill them and say they did 2.5 but the ideal is 3.5 teeth but they're talking in degrees and someone recommended 5, and someone else said you can do this, but you still have to use the 4 tooth method or something like that, and I just got lost. What is the ideal set up and procedure for this cam set up and what do all these numbers mean? I've read so much conflicting information and there must be something that i'm interpreting wrong. Sorry for so many questions.

Sorry I should've specified. I didn't know they had that for the SR's. This is for a KA.

Hmm, are you going to plan for and do this swap on your own? Do you have related experience? Maybe pictures and graphing out things will help you visualize. Graph the timing for 360 degrees with four strokes and overlay the new cam data on that. I did do a google search "jwt 240sx cam gear" and got some interesting results, including video (the video seemed pretty informative to me). You should do that and go through the results. Sometimes, all the notes, pictures and hand waving just isn't enough to get a concept and what you need to do is get the actual parts in front of you and start getting dirty and it suddenly all makes sense.

FYI - the JWT gears are for sale for about $140 and if you buy them from a reputable dealer, you'll probably get some factory support as well as having a warranty. This may be a better route for you than drilling or hopping teeth.

Hey thanks for the suggestion I looked it up.I will do it myself and I have experience working on stuff like that but I've always done it as maintenance , not for performance purposes. So the idea of setting the timing a few teeth off surprises me cuz depending on the engine that could damage something but granted, I will be installing a different set of cams and this is a necessary step. what I can't understand or wrap my head around is what the exact setting should be. I see people talking about teeth and about degrees when they talk about the drilled cam gear. People install these either 3 teeth ccw or 4 teeth ccw but the "ideal setting" would be 3.5 teeth ccw which is impossible without the drilled cam gear. That's fine and I'm willing to take the extra step to get what I consider the optimal set up but on the chart provided by jwt each cam gear position/hole moves it 2.5 degrees. Simple enough but I have no idea how many degrees 3.5 teeth equates to therefore IDK which hole I should use. I don't know if the settings for the intake or exhaust cam should be different either so basically to simplify my question for the 248/232 cam swap on the KA, what hole do I use for the intake cam gear and what hole do I use for the exhaust cam gear and is there anything else I have to do?
