Swapped the cams and did the +2.5 advance. Runs fine but doesn't want to idle when coming down from higher rpms.

I can get it to idle if I baby it to a stop....

I have OBDII.

Thanks

I found another thread and it's looking like that is the case.

When you guys pop the cover are you using RTV on the half moons? so many are talking it takes only 15-20mins to adjust the timing and recheck....rtv takes 24hours to cure.

I have the FelPro PermaDry gaskets if it makes a difference.

when I did my cams I think they were angled up a little as that is what the cam sprocket page shows...it's hard to see the cam alignment in the other pictures.

It may be the weekend before I can redo it, can't have the car down a day during this week.

Fortunately I reset the ecu and as long as I keep the a/c on it usually won't stall.

you took the timing chain completely off to do this?

in that case you're off half a tooth. thats like 9 degrees...

how is that possible? the idler sprocket doesnt contain an evenly divisible number of teeth, so you can be off by .5 degrees

so if that is the case, all you ahve to do is move the chain forward or back one link on the idler sprocket, then re-time the cams.

didn't take the chain off at all...I am not sure where you are getting 1/2 a tooth. I am probably 1 tooth off.

I set the cam at the proper position then mounted the sprocket at the +2.5 advance mark.

I will take it apart Saturday and check things out again.

ha.

okay, rereading the original post i see....

if it were off a tooth, you'd be off 18 degrees, and trust me, you'd know it.

i suggest taking the advance off this weekend, because i've never tried 248/232 with advance.... that may be an issue with it. I used to have all kinds of idling problems with my swaps and intake manifold set ups, so often when i was coming to a stop i would use my heel to keep it idling.... so unless you wanna do that try taking the advance off

I thought 248/232 with +2.5 advance was the right way people were doing it...

How does the 248(+5)/248 setup perform idling.

If I get it apart and the cams are timed right, I am going to be forced to have to go back to 0 degrees.

I just hope I wasn't sold a 232 exhaust cam that was remarked.

nah, the 2.5 degrees of advance was just for the 248/248 set up i was running. if you set the 248 cam in the stock location its intake opening event is still identical to the 240 cam

i'll never remember how 248(+5) ran....

these two threads have me believing I am a tooth off:

http://forums2.nicoclub.com/showthread.php?t=58953 especially the part about shaking like a small block chevy.

Are you using RTV when you do your cam swaps? If so how long you waiting before starting it up?

I am confused then because you had mentioned the 248(+2.5)/232 several times as better than just 248/232.

still waiting for the RTV to dry, but my exhaust side was off even though I didn't touch it. 1 tooth.

Hopefully tomorrow it starts fine...I have to fix an exhaust stud that broke....freaking nightmare of a day, my egr nut to manifold is also not cooperating going back on.
