i know most would recommend 235/50, but i have a chance to purchase a new set of 245/50/17 michelins for $500.this size tires are rare and usually expensive.

what do you guys think?

should work fine, most people run 245-45-18s which is the same OD as a 245-50-17, speedo will be off by maybe 5% (hardly noticable) but will work fine. I think youll like the extra sidewall for ride comfort too!

On stock ae 17x7.5 wheels, should be good. Should be at least H speed rated (don't drive over 130 mph) and no harder than UTQG 320.

Sure your wheels weren't in the recall? It's by VIN if I recall the TSB correctly.

Here's the TSB. http://www.q45.org/cpg/albums/...9.pdf

To the o/p... if you didn't own the car back then and don't have records to know if it was done, any Infiniti dealership should be able to pull your service records and check.

thanks all for replying, when i purchased the car last year it came with the new polished ae wheels due to the recall, im not crazy about the polished finish though, i even painted the chrome strip above the license plate to a flat black with a can of trim black that i hope will not start to chip away.

Just in case you missed it, we're not talking about cosmetics here, but safety.

i hear you, thanksshe also gave me the dealer service records at the time of sale, which indicated the recall and replacement of all four wheels, another thing that was replaced was the transmission at 6x,000 because the original owner complained of rough shifting and the funny thing is that it still shifts a little rough to me compared to the 2 99q that i owned. it also gave me a VSS speed sensor cel a couple of months ago which i didnt clear right away and put my transmission into fail safe mode after about 4 days, but drove fine after i cleared the code. im waiting until it gets the code again to bring it in.

finally had the 245/50/17 installed for a few days now, definitely fills up the fender space nicely although you lose the somewhat low profile look of the 225/50/17 which is not a big deal for me since it has a slightly wider stance. steering feels a tad stiffer, so far no problems with fit or rubbing issues.

A note to JohnQ in the off chance he sees it:

Thanks for COMING BACK and posting results.

I just bought a set of 245's last night, and was hoping to find some decent news on here, I pulled the trigger because of a good deal.

It's so rare that people ask questions, get answers, then actually come back to post results.

Forums all across the internet and all industries - sadly, people ask so much but provide so little back to everyone else.

I made my KS writeup for people that were always searching for KS info - I NEVER THOUGHT I'd get the response I do, usually 2 emails per week with questions (or just thanks).

Thanks JohnQ for being a helpful member!

Historically fender well and insert clearance have allowed 255 and 50 width to function but some brands of tires don't fully conform to precise sizes and may scrub on full lock turns when brand new.

A real tire Michelin or Bridestone [top of the line] really turns the Q into something quite different especially when oversized [higher than stock load index] or softer than stock tread wear.

A very soft 215 can out handle a hard 245...........just that the 215 will wear out faster.

Well said, nice to see someone new post a question, get an answer, and follow up.

It is for sure true what great tires can do, on 245/35 19" my 97' with Bridgestone Potenza 050A Pole Positions handles like night and day. The final piece after shocks/struts and springs were upgraded. I luckily do not drive that much as they are soft YR rated tires and I'd bet will only last 10-12k the way I drive (faster then I should).

Next tires are at least 40 series, I bought 35 series as I wasn't sure if this would fit into the wheel wells but there is more then enough room. I actually long for a 50 series as the 35s you can tell if it is heads or tails driving over a quarter.

So sad that few will ever know the truth of this statement. In tires, you pretty much get for what you pay from top tier manufacturers.
