Hey guys whats up. got a quick questions, i currently have 17 inch, 7 inch wide rims. I was wondering if i could fit a 245/45/17 inch tired on there. On nitto's website it suggest a 7.5-8.5 inch rim for a 245 tire, but ive had lots of people tell me it should fit. Also will i have any clearance problems in an s14? i think it should fit ok.

I have a 245/45 17 all the way around get a bigger rim if you want to put them on your car if company says 7.5 inch width than get that but to be safe I would go with an 8 inch width rim IMO

dont want to buy new rims/ id rather squeeze on if its possible. I love my rims, because no one has them. Well its just an mr7, but i had it powder coated black, so its unique. You dont see black mr7s. Anyways imma check with a tire shop.

I work at a tire shop, you need a 7.5 rim. the widest I would go on a 7" rim is 235. period. and those will bulge signifigantly.

also, why do you want to run those on the rear? all your doing is making the tire bulge, ruining your contact patch, and raising your effective gearing via an increase in the overall tire diameter by nearly 1/2"....

just get a 215-45-17 or something and be happy.-chet

I currently have 235/40/17's on the rear of my s14 with 17x 7 mr5's, i am really happy with them, they bulge out a little on the sides but that is what i wanted, i hate it when the rim is flush or sticks out farther than the rubber

why do you need drag radials? do you have a LSD in the rear? a wider tire doen not, necessarily, translate into better grip off the line.

if you dont have a LSD, get one and a stickier tire, like a BF goodrich G-force T/a(any dry compound tire should work well with a large contact area..)

if you're still having traction problems, buy a set of 15" weld racing wheels and get some M/T ET radials man...

or get a 17x10.5" and run a 315-35-17..

as far as drag radials a 235-45-17 should be available, I still dont see how you'd need them unless you drag race professionally, and even then you should have at least a PAIR of "drag night" wheels, mounted with tires.(and you should get the E/T radials in a light 15" wheel...)

you're still screwing your gearing buy running a 235-45, but not as bad as a 245-45-17....

another question I have is why you got mr-7's for drag racing? those rims are heavy and not exactly drag race material. Take the money you wasted on the rim and buy a LSD, and some better compound tires, you would be fine.-chet

that one time to the track was the only time i used the mr7's because my i got a big screw in my nitto 555r. So i went to track with mr7's. My car has factory lsd. With spray i would just tear them up. Im not sure how sr20det is, but my friend just had swap done into a s13. At 12 psi his car spins a little in 3rd. Kicks sideways pretty hard going into 2nd. hes on a decent tire, but no lsd. Im thinking about maybe getting rota's for when i go to track, and ill if i need to ill get 245's then. thanks for all your help.

If Nitto says 7.5 minimum, then I would adhere to it(assuming you have the tire this recommendation is made on). As Exar said, your tires may bulge. Spcifically in the center of the tread. Putting too wide of a tire on too thin a wheel can also be unsafe as the bead may pop itself off the lip of the wheel.

Nitto 555r's, Had them on my Supra T, it had LSD, and drasticly helped my launches, they lasted me a long time as well (had to street them, cause my other tires had been slashed...) there are better drag radials out there, but for the money 555r's are good. BTW, they where 225/50-16's.

A higher aspect ratio for the rear (wider) tire, that is just silly, You want a lower aspect ratio on the wider tire so you can try to keep the diameter close to stock

Heres an idea for the " or something"...

I didn't want to spill the beans, but i'm sure they'll be gone before I bald these ones, so it doesn't matter

yokohama AVS intermediate 235/40/17 only $63

I've got em on 17x 7.5s and little to no bulge, however you are right about the contact patch, I would prefer an 8.5 inch width

Nice wide high performance tire handles great in the DRY and still works in the rain... sort of!

But, F#ck it 63 dolluh$ Sheeeeeit fooo!

Hook it up!

BTW putting wider tires on the back (of RWD cars of course) is for cars with really high HP and torque, unless you are running some high boost set up or some dealio, I would recommend the 235/40/17s all the way around!

Wider is not better if only the center of the tire touches the ground (wide tire on skinny wheel equals poor contact patch)

If you want a really bad-ars set up/best handleing,) put these bad boys...

225/45/17 Falken Azenis can be used for daily driver, auto-X and retains correct diameter, plus 200 treadware =awesome traction and look bad-arsed too!

225/45/17 Falken Azenis TRUST these are the real deal

Chances are your gay rims are probably a 15 x 6 or a 15 x 7...either way a 225/50/15 would probably work a liitle better in the dry corners and look a little less gay too. 225/50/15 should keep your diameter almost perfect as well

heres a link to the tire specs of the dunlop SP 8000 exact same diameter...perfect

see the diameter of the 205/55/15 vs the 225/50/15

peep these ones out

Yokos for $80 phat ars tread too!

Thats what I would do anyways, but looking for a good deal on some used rims first is a great idea, cuz I'm assuming your not gay, so those gay rims will have to go! He HE!

dry grip and (decent)long life, baring cost, get a Pirelli Pzero Rosso, Yokohama ES100, michelin pilot sport.

those will last a while and provide good grip and decent life, the parada and azenis will wear down quickly, as will the AVS sport, MXX3 (mich), and s-03 bridgestone.

the nitto will be a good drag tire(becuase its a DRAG tire, purpose built) ubt might nont last as long or handle quite as well as you'd want, you could try them.

for autocrossing purposes and weekend drags, the G-force T/A KDW or KD will be nice by BF goodrich, but the KD may wear a bit fast. like I said, I'll be refining my sticky post about tires tonight, read up :D-chet

If you want really REALLY good dry grip, then you MUST sacrifice long life. PERIOD!
