Seems like you should see more HP... I know you see less at the rear wheel, but you would think it would be closer to 280 - 300.

Why is the peak at 5500? Mine feels like it pulls cleanly up to 7 - 8k w/ a stock ecu.

The car shifted into 2nd, so he wasn't really getting on it until about 4,500, so the torque readings are low. I asked Wes how to disable the downshift feature, so the next run should have better torque numbers.

The car has:

Sounds like new exhaust headers are needed. Are there plans for a GB on these? I didn't realize that they were so restrictive.

You realized incorrectly. They are not restrictive. Try reading some of the previous posts, please. Even a search or two if you don't.

Hmm, then why did Robs headers give him over 30HP?

Something does seem amiss... I was hoping to see more like 250-260 with the ECU but then again dynos are not always accurate between different dynos.

congrats Jeff for taking the Q to the dyno shop for some runs. I would not sweat the numbers too much....each dyno is different and there are too many other factors influencing the numbers so I think only using the same dyno under similar conditions should be comparable. I will be looking forward to seeing your numbers after the exhaust modification. One thing though is that AF ratio is really high compared to my setup. Can you verify that those readings are correct with them at the shop?

I also noticed that my rpms according to their computer were about 200~400rpms off. I can't remember which way but it was very interesting that the tack would be that far off yet my car always shifted perfectly at what it said was 6,900rpms. I guess I was only really shifting at 6,500rpms if the factory gauges were that far off. Ohh well...I guess a little safety margin is always good.

I would say it runs a bit too lean overall... I find it that it must be on a threshold of detonation with this kinda A/F. Personally I am kinda disappointed with the numbers, it puts out less TQ than a stock 3.5L Automatic 2002-03 Nissan Maxima. From my personal testing I found that gutting the cat does nothing in terms of power. Loose that Stillen cone filter and you will see that there will be more power. Try to see if the muffler shop is willing to make you a cold air intake pipe from the MAF to the fenderwell where the filter isnt exposed to super hot underhood temps.

Not bad.

A couple of observations:

- The a/f ratio is very close to the point of detonation. The ECU might have been pulling timing, hence the lower than expected numbers.

- The Stillen/JWT Popcharger is going to draw in hot air causing lower hp. If the temps were in the 80s for the dyno room, then you were easily pulling in over 100 degrees through the Popcharger.

When you go back after your exhaust work, swap in the factory box without the snorkel. I think that you might notice a difference.

Also, did the fuel contain any ethanol?

No proof of that as there was no data in the stock configuration. Nor can one compare diferent operators of different dynometers, even the "same" brand.

Jeff's data will be much more interesting, unless he changes out the cone filter. Then he will have to start all over.

thanks for posting up Jeff. i'll encourage you to only change one parameter at a time between runs (easy for me to say, i know) just provides most useful comparison.....

question on runs 2 and 3 since the gray scale makes it hard to differentiate the traces right around 4600--is run 3 where the tq/hp are lower in the low revs, and then inflect (upward) right at 4600?

4600 is the VVT turn OFFF point in the NICO ecu. Robert and I are discussing some tweks offline on the VVT setpoints.....

Maxnix....I have a well documented 2 different ways of proof of solid HP gains that I believe you are overlooking. First being a stock dyno run (posted in another thread) vs. the modified run as you see above. If you search I did the stock dyno run before any mods at the same dyno place and the only difference is that they changed operating names and it was done a year earlier however you should be able to extrapolate the figures to a reasonable degree of accuracy given that we already know what all the other factors add in rwhp numbers. Secondly....I have done countless 1/4 runs both before and afterwards from which you can also extrapolate the HP gains when we already know what the various other factors contribute to reducing 1/4 runs.

Lastly....I could really give a rip if I gained 30rwhp or not as my 1/4 mile figures have definitely spoke for themselves with a documented 14.25 ET whcih is 0.35 secs quicker than the previously known best time of 14.6 secs on another nicely modified Q45. All I know is that your arogant a$$ will be choking on my illegal cat-less exhaust particles as you are watching my taillights disappear off into the distance.

I did use my infrared temp gauge on the cone filter. I was getting around 101 deg F intake air temp. I won't be changing anything, except the exhaust for the second run.

I do want to lock the car in 3rd, so there is no worry about shifting. Sam couldn't really go WOT, until the car was already at about 4,200 to 4,500 RPM. I think Wes knows how to do that.

The first run, the car shifted, so he backed off. The second run, he did in third. The third run he did in second. We let the car cool down for 15 minutes, thend did the 4th run, which was the highest. I didn't take my USB drive with me so I don't have a nice image. I have a color print out, and when I go home this weekend, I will use the color scanner. The first run was deleted from the readout.

I bought the last tank of gas at a Citgo that is changing to a Chevron. The lady inside said they were already using Chevron gas. Not sure if there was any ethanol. It is not real prevalent in this area.

I may do a 3rd set of pulls, with the stock air box, just for kicks.

We let the car idle for about 10 minutes before we started, while we were hooking it up, and looking for a good timing signal for the tach.

I wonder if my torque converter is stealing my torque? I think the curly Q's are from it locking up. Maybe a Level-10 TC would help my numbers.

Thanks for all the encouraging statements and ideas. It always helps to get opinions from other Q owners and enthusiests.

Any transmission experts want to give me some feedback?

I will be driving hte Vette all next week, since I am going to Bowling Green for the Corvette Forum Cruise-In. I will get the next set of pulls when I return. Probably on the 30th.

Keep those comments and suggestions coming. I am taking a picture of Rob's headers to the exhaust place today. Maybe they can make me a set of long tube headers.

I will be taking her to the track now that it is only 2 miles from my office. Iwill post some numbers, as long as you guys dont kid me about my reaction times.

I plan on doing this over the next few weeks myself.

I put it in the other post, but that is REALLY lean. Almost exactly one point lean. But you still have the main cat, correct, and that could be the reason for it.

The ECU is tuned for 13.0:1 at the stock O2 sensor location, which is before both cats.

The sniffer they use, extends up the main tail pipes. I do have the main cats still. I don't really know that much about this stuff, but would that make his readings leaner?

I might want you to modify the ECU, with a couple richer WOT settings, if it means more power.

I will disconnect the TCU, so we can get a true torque reading with WOT initiated around 3,000 RPM. Also, the new cats are going on as I type this, which may change the A/F ratios. Sam said the A/f ratios might be off a half a point, which would mean they are not as lean as it shows.

The next readings will be around May 30th, and I will bring my USB drive, so the readouts will be in color.

Thanks for the comments.

Robert, can you come to Montogmery, and do it on the fly, while the car is on the Dyno?
