How hard is it to do a 350 chevy engine swap in a 240z? Are there any other good drop in replacement swaps? Are there any good write ups on this page or other sites about this information?

there are 2 differetn SBC swap veariations, the older "scarab" version done back int he 70's uses a higher further forward mount setup and basically just involves adaping your mounts to the stock crossmsmber, the more popular version is the JTR (Jags That Run) version, it sets the engine further back and lower down, there si a book that details the plates trans options etc, check amazon for a copy of the book, although it's been covered and detailed many times online and is the basis for HybridZ

yes it'll bolt up, all 70-83 L6 engines are completely interchangable

if the engine has forged pistosn it's a steal, if it's just the stock low compression pistons that came int he 77 it's nto a bad deal just not a great one, and the "engine bolts" you mean, main, rod or head? the headbots are a weakpoint when boosting, arp headstuds are a necesity for anything north of 250 whp

what head is onb th eengine? there is a number cast on the base of the head below and between the spark plugs for #1 and 2, if it's the 77 head it's N47, which is not a desirable head, the P90 or P90A would be stock turbo heads, and the N42 would be a higher compression head but still OK with stock dished pistons

the block should ave a number cast into it beneath the drivers side engine mount, it should say N42 if it's a 77, if it says F54 it's a 280ZX motor and might have flap top pistons or might be dished they came both ways

yes these motors can be very fast, stock electronics and internals limit them to aroudn 250 whp, upping the fuel injectors, ecu, turbo, intercooler, headstuds car get you to around 400 whp before the stock cast pistons give up the ghost, with forged pistons they have been known to ecxeed 600 whp!

All im used to is chevy 350's. If you can work on one of them is it pretty easy to work on a datsun motor?

yup, easier I'd say, I find inline engines easier to work on than "V" engines, tuning multiple carbs can be a bit tricky, otherwise pretty simple engines

To start Try jagsthatrun.com, it's a good resource for V8 conversions. Then go to Hybridz and try a search.

I say drop a rb20 or 25 in it. There are good tech write ups on this swap. It's fairly straight forward
