***UPDATE****

Ok, I posted day before yesterday as my 240sx would not start. Took the battery to Autozone, checked out fine and charged it for me. After tightening some wires to the starter everything worked fine. Yesterday I started it maybe 5 times, and each time it took longer and longer to turn over.

So I get in it this morning and nothing. The clicking sound I heard earlier this week between the two front seats is gone. All electronics work fine, when I turn the key I hear one click from the engine bay and that's it. It clicks every time I turn the key.

Im just in a tough position as I just lost my job, and my company car, and dont have a ton of cash. My 240sx has been sitting for a while, but drove fine all day yesterday besides start up taking a few seconds.

So Im thinkingStarterSolenoid <- where is this located and how do I replace/test it?bad wires somewhere.

I just am baffled as it worked fine yesterday.I drove 50 miles+ listened to the radio etc... I think maybe the starter was going bad yesterday and just quit today?

Any help would be great

*************************************************************Ok, so I haven't driven my 240 a lot in hte past 6 months due to having a company car. I just tried to start it up last night and it wouldn't fire. All electronics were running SLOW, wipers, seat belts etc..So I took the battery to autozone, they charged it. Installed it this am, all electronics are working fine but the car wont start. I am hearing a weird clicking from in between the two front seats. Is there a solenoid there? or is it a starter issue? its been really cold and wet as well if that makes a difference. Embedding videos so you can hear the sounds.

Sounds like your starter solenoid to me...

is the solenoid on the starter or somewhere else? the clicking is coming from between the seats, which is really odd.

Thanks for the quick response though!

Its attached to the starter, which is attached to the trany so it makes sense that it would come from in-between the seats.

that clicking sounds like it is coming from your seat belt control unit, wich is in the center console. if it was the starter solinoid it would only click while you held the key forward and would come from the passenger side footwell/engine bay. try having a friend hold the key forward and tap on the starter with a broomstick. tap hard. see if it starts. if that doesnt work get out your multimeter and unplug the signal line to your starter. again have a friend hold the key forward while you test the line for juice. if it goes live when he turns the key to start your starter is bad. if the line doesnt get hot you have an electrical problem. check that out and post back.

Ok so my dad came over today to try and help. We tried to jump the car thinking it would help narrow the possibilities. So this is what happens. If you turn the key without the clutch depressed there is a clcking/relay sound comming from near the drivers headlight. If you depress the clutch and turn the key then a clicking is heard on hte passenger side near the starter. Is this the solenoid clicking. but a dead starter not functioning after that? At this point Ive ruled out the battery and alternator, so it has to be the starter or the solenoid right?

Take out the starter and get it tested... more than likely it finally died.

What you are describing sounds like pretty much the same exact issue I ran into a while back. Turning over slowly each time until it wouldn't even turn, that clicking sound, good battery, etc.
