So i have a 1992 240sx Se Fastback 5-speed. For some reason it wont go pass 5,000 rpm. The ecu is not chipped its all stock everything on the car. It doesnt cut out or bog on the why up there. It sho0ts up fast like normal and goes over 5,000 rpm just by a lil bit like maybe 5,300rpm and that it. This happens in every gear its almost like thats its rev limit when i know they can go way more then just 5,000 rpm. Its a ka24de motor. fuel rail, injectors, fuel filter, timing chain, alternator all have been changed on the car. It drives fine. My 5th gear seems kinda hard to come out of and the car kinda seems to be slower or kinda bog a lil in 5th but just a lil only if you notice it. No check engine lights or anything. Does anyone know what this could be ?? any help or info would be of great help.

There was just a thread the other day with a similar problem. I think it ended up being the instr. cluster.I'm guessing the ecu gets its rev limiter RPM feed from the cluster, which might be giving the incorrect reading.

check your 5th gear sensor.

to test: unplug 5th gear sensor & run.

when that sensor goes crazy (or the wiring associated w/ it), it starts limiting you in every gear.

you can search for the rpm rev limit, etc problem w/ the 240 if you need further details.
