240sx wont go into gear

I just bought a 240sx and it seemed to run ok. It was driven and delivered to my house just fine. Now in my driveway, when the engine is off, the car will go into gear. However, when the engine is turned on, it will not go into gear and is thus, undriveable.

I am wondering what the problem could be and how much approximately it could cost. I thought I was getting a good deal on a car, but now it looks like im sunk. Thanks in advance.

It is a 1996 240sx SEwith 115,000 milesin Pittsburgh PA

Its all of the gears actually...It goes to the mechanic today... hmph.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for your S14? Also, when you test drove the vehicle, did you experience any clutch slippage?

The car cost 4400 with a body in almost perfect condition.Former_240_s14 hooked me up with the deal and even test drove it. He said things ran perfectly and even mentioned the clutch to be strong. Im currently in Italy so havent driven it yet.

As far as I know, the dealer was a redneck sort and did not know much about the 240sx and that is why the price was so low. Im questioning that now. But even my mother who drove it before said it ran great. Now it wont work...
