So here are the car stats-

1993 Convertible 240sxAuto - 5spd convertedstock

Symptoms before-After driving (warm temp) sometimes you would get back in the car to restart her and she wouldnt crank on the first key turn. Turn the key back to off and then turn it back to start and it starts no problem.

Current Symptoms-After about a year now I got out to my car at around 5pm and the car wouldnt start at all. Them temp was cold it had been sitting for 10 hours. I was able to push start the car and get her home so I automatically assumed it was my starter and ordered a new one. Changed out my starter today and still no cranking.

All the wiring looks good. The car has run great for over a year after the conversion. What else could it be? Could it be Ignition key solenoid related? How do I test for this? Thanks guys!

What noises if any does the car make when you attempt to start it? Do you hear clicking? Do you only hear the fuel pump priming? After push starting, how long can you run the car for? Have you tested your battery? More info

So sent power directly to the solenoid and the car started right up. So according to the faq section here its either going to be wiring, ignition, or the interlock relay. I dont think my convertible has an interlock relay, there is no relay mounted behind the battery on the body like it shows in pictures.

I only hear a single relay click. The car runs for ever once I get it started. I drove it 38 miles home after I got it pushed started the other day. And now If I run 12 volt directly to the starter it starts on command. So it has to be wiring or a bad relay some where.

Found this...http://answers.yahoo.com/quest...5JIoz

IS this the test you did to get it to start? Crossing the two posts on the solenoid? I had a jump done for me this way one time by a tow truck driver. He didn't want to load my old car on the back of his truck if he didn't have to (last call of the day) he tried the screw driver thing and it fired up. Drove it home, and drove my mom's car to buy a new solenoid next day

IF you hear clicking it's the solenoid or starter, in my experience. Relay is firing and supplying power, starter/solenoid is just doing nothing with it.

Well as a quick fix I wired a toggle switch to the starter and ran it to the car just to get me to work for now untill I find out which relay is failing. The starter is brand new and my last starter was good also. Its either in the ignition switch or some other relay I have to find.

Ah, cool. Didn't know if a new solenoid came with the starter too. Hopefully you get it figured out soon!

Probably the wiring that was done for the 5 speed conversion is starting to come apart.

Double checked all my wiring with my tester and all had good continuity. No breaks in any of the *edited* wires.

Well then I guess it's time to sit down with your meter and the fsm and go through the whole electrical path for starter signal.
