sorry guys, i know there is a thread about power steering at 240sx tech forum but i'm a bit worried right now cause i just put regular power steering in my 240sx vert--power steering...

if i'm correct, i've read the forum that the 240sx is recommended to use ATF DEXTRON 2 (auto trans fluid...) will i be able to use any type of brand of ATF or can i go out to the Nissan dealers and get a bottle of MATIC-D auto trans fluid? (the only auto trans fluid they have at Nissan)

thanks

I've been using any brand Dextron III auto transmission fluid for as long as my power steering has been leaking. I did the PS fix on the tech forum and now no more leaks. No more idle sensor either.

Huh, this is news to me. My PS ran dry awhile back and I filled it up with regular PS fluid, seems fine to me

I've always used ATF from Advanced Auto. Seems good to go!!!

OP, if you or anyone else is interested, we offer a high pressure replacement ps line in the Fabricators Marketplace.

my guess is bypassing the entire high pressure hose & hard lines and going directly from pump -> rack w/ a stainless braided/teflon hose & adapters.

My PS was leaking and getting worse - I used to carry a bottle of Dextron III and fill it up almost daily. I did the hard line delete that goes directly to the rack and that solved the problem beautifully. Lost about a pound of hose too

One negative though, it also deletes the idle sensor which on a 5-speed is no big deal but for an automatic can cause the car to under idle just before you accelerate. Just something to be aware of.

Nissan sells power steering fluid and I used it on mine. It's in a Nissan bottle, so I thought it was safe to use. I flushed entire system and no problem for several years.

I know the manual mentioned 3/4 qt of fluid. I just flushed the entire system dry of fluid prior to replacing it with the HICAS pump and reservoir. How much fluid did you truly end up using? I hope my PS isn't leaking either...I just put the HICAS rack on a week or so ago.
