Ok, I don't have a 240 yet, but I live in southern Indiana, so we do usually get snow in the winter. And we all know how road salt LOVES to rust out cars. My current car has rust, as do a lot of cars around here. I'm planning on getting one with very little rust, I would have to drive a long time most likely to find one that I like and has no rust, so I'm just going to assume whatever 240 I end up getting, is going to have a little rust here and there. Obviously I'm not buying anything rotted, just some repairable spots or something.

But what I want to do is get my car on a lift, and look everything over and make sure I repairing any spots that need repairing and strip any surface rust off. But I really would like to bedline the entire bottom of the car. Well, anywhere that is part of the body. Even do it in the wheelwells. I think it'll look nice, and would prevent any rust from ever attacking my car. Because I will have to drive in the snow and get all that salt on my car, and I would like this car to last a long time and if I ever have to sell it, it won't have any rust.

But I need help knowing what to look like. With surface rust, can I just get a grinding/ stripping disc for an angle grinder and just go to town on it? Is that all it takes? I know if there's anything more than that, it'll have to be cut out and weld in a new piece. And if I do cut pieces out, can I just weld in some sheet metal since it's just the bottom of the car? No one will really ever see it but me probably. Also, is it possible to have rust INSIDE the frame rails that doesn't show on the outer shell? Is that something that can happen? I plan on doing the trunk too, just because I know they can rust sometimes.

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure if I do end up doing this at some point, I cover everything that could potentially rust or cause problems. I also don't want to spray the liner on and it end up rusting underneath it, and I won't know till it's too late. Once I put the liner on, I want to make it 110% clear there is no rust underneath. So if anyone could let me know anything to look out for, how to do it, or any places I don't know about that'd be awesome. I hope to hear from someone!

Also I saw some rubberized spray like bedliner that has anti-rust treatment in it, would that work or is that just a scam?

Check out "My S13 was buildt on a Friday Restoration" thread by Asoomal and
"m tr4nch's restoration/build thread !! (56k = death)" thread by m tr4nch to see some nitty gritty car restoration stuff. There's a lot of metal for rust to attack. I like your bed liner idea and hope that someone with experience responds to that specifically.
