Hey i have an automatic nissan 240sx, and the transmission blew, so i was thinkin, i have two options. 1. Sell the car, because i dont like automatics, and the transmissions are expensive as well.-or-2. Convert the automatic to manual because i am really looking to have a car that i can fix up and what not.The question is here, how much trouble, money, maintenence, etc. would it be to convert it to a manual, 5 spd. And if i do get it done, will it have lots of problems because it was once an automatic. I think that instead of keeping the engine i have, just in case it was even possible to keep the same engine, i am going to get an sr-20det engine and save myself the trouble of the possibility of blowing the old one(partly because its not doin so hot).

So i need some information and i would be greatly appreciative if you could help me out. If you would like to contact me, my email is [email protected]

Thank You.

If you are planning on getting an SR20, save the money you would spend on a transmission for that. No sense in paying $1000+ for a new transmission when you could add some more to that and get everything you need for an SR swap.

Auto-manual swaps have been covered here EXTENSIVELY...so search and you will find all you want to know. The search button is in the upper right hand corner of this window.

There are a few writeups on here that show how to do it (I have one at the link on my sig) so find one and you will know what you need, etc.

For a price, I paid around $1200 for mine but some people have done it with all salvage yard parts for much cheaper. It depends where you are shopping. I wouldn't get rid of your 240 just because you need a transmission. After going from an automatic to a manual it will feel like a totally different car.
