I recently purchased a 90 240 SX to drive and an 89 to use as a donor car i.e fenders etc. to make into a daily driver for my wife as we are running from the repoman with our Passport in hand. Neither of these vehicles have a viable automatic transmission. Should I continue to search for a auto transmission (hard to find and pricy) or is it feasible and more fun to convert to a manual transmission? Any info would be a help.

It really just depends on your prefrence! if your looking cheap stick with the auto because i always see people trying to get rid of there auto's after they swap it to a 5sp. but if you want it to be more than a daily driver i personally do the swap!

Thanks PearlW. I, will likely go either way depending on what jumps off the net first.

5 speed swap will run you like $400 for everything, or $550 shipped if it's not local

an automatic will run you $150 or so

so it's an issue of what you want.

dont worry about the transmission change. it does take a lot of time to convert. and unless you like to drive fast, you dont really need it. but thats my oppinion. its all up to you. it took my father and myself about 15 hours to convert the transmitions and that was busting our asses.
