Hey guys, im thinking about picking up an s14 this summer and I'm wondering how theft is with 240sx's. I did a search and went through the threads, found a few about theft but it was onyl people saying the 240sx didn't make the top stolen cars list but i know there aren't many s14's around so it prolly wouldn't make the list anyway. So, anyway, are s14 240sx's very prone to theft? What about s13s? I've read they are easy to break into when looking through posts. Do a lot of s14 parts fit in s13's? For example, brakes, wheels, suspension, interior etc. I figure that s14's being rare could be a good thing to decrease theft and the demand for parts, but if the items are interchangable with the s13 and/or are desired by thieves especially with the popularity of the sr20 swap, it could be a very bad thing too. This is important because i need a car that has a low possibility of being stolen, I cannot afford to have it taken. Thanks for the help.

edit: just saw my rank "driving mom's car" and started cracking up, it's so true haha

well with the up and coming popularity of the sr swaps, i'd say 240's have been more stolen now than 5 years ago. I don't think that is enough in itself to cause concern for yourself. Just install a good alarm system, and watch where you park and you shoudl be ok. It also depends on the frequency of car thefts in your area, and the popularity of the 240sx itself there too

Sorry but I don't know much about theft rates on our cars, I know mine hasn't been broken into, ever. :) Might also help to know where you are, what kind of area you're in aswell. Oh, and have insurance, and think about an alarm. I know it doesn't defeat theft, but it definitely can help.

Good luck. ;)

Thanks for the info guys, we'll see how it goes this summer with getting an s14. I plan on doing all of the security things I can think of to whatever car i get. Definitely dual fuel cutoffs, I'll even take my ecu with me if need be :) From my searches I haven't seen my "my car was stolen" threads, only 1 or 2 which is good. I look at the honda forums a lot and it seems like there is at least 1 "my car has been stolen" thread every day which is why i'm looking into a 240

No alarm in the world can stop a tow truck, but then again if thieves had a tow truck, think they'd go after 240s? :)

Get yourself a fuel cut immobilizer, there was a good one on here a couple weeks ago which used relays and magnets to form a switch.

I don't live in the ghetto or anything, it's actually a decent neighborhood but it's going down hill. Had a few cars stolen in my family over the years and that led to insurance problems so it'd be really bad if another one got taken. Also like i said i read the honda boards all of the time and some of them come up with extreme anti-theft ideas like taking out the ECU for theft protection. I've also read a few threads where fuel cutoff switches have saved the car. It prolly wont' come to me taking my ecu with me when I leave my car but I'm willing to do a lot to try to make my car a little tougher to steal.
