Ok, so I am getting ready to install some of the stereo stuff I have in my closet in my S14.

Both my front speakers are blown, so I am replacing them with some Focal 165v2 6.5" components, using RAAMAT on the doors. I have an Alpine 9830 with the Ipod interface that I will be using, plus I have an Alpine MRV-T420 2-channel amp that I can use to power the front speakers.

Should I just run the rear speakers off the headunit or just loose them altogether? I can always add a sub later if I decide it's neccessary.

I would keep them.

When I got my S13 all 4 of my speakers were blown, so I replaced the two front speakers and put two subs in the back with no rear speakers and it wasn't bad (well it was for anyone that rode in the back). But now that I put rear speakers in it sounds MUCH better. Expecially if you are adding one or more subs, it will be all bass and nothing else if you don't have rear speakers.

Thanks for the input.

I think I may just replace all four speakers and the headunit for now.

Old speakers = 8 ohm...Headunit = 4 ohm...Sound = very bad...Remember Ohms law:Resistance(Speaker)>Resistance(head) => Sound = Poo

WTF? Um no! Ohm's Law has nothing to do with sound quality by itself.

Higher ohm loads will DECREASE THD.

ALso, most OEM speakers are less then 4ohms, usually 2ohms. This is to get the most power from the weak stock HU.

I would recommend getting new rears.

I ended up getting 4 Alpine SPS-170a's for $100. I'm running them all four off the HU (Alpine 9830) and it's SO much better than before, but there isn't much midbass.

My car doesn't have stock tweeters in the pillars so there isn't anywhere to mount tweets very easy, that's why I went with coaxials.

If I end up getting a 5-channel amp and powering all four speakers as well as a 10" sub, will I gain some midbass from the speakers (from adding more power) or am I pretty much going to have to get different speakers to solve that?

NOpe. I suspect that what you're referring to as "mid bass" is most likely mid range. Most car speakers are lacking in the midrange section

Anyway, it will indeed sound better with an amp due to the "cleaner" power.

Thanks for the help.

I guess the term "midrange" does work better than "midbass".

Yeah, midrange is the band that human voices fall into.

...Man, does no one get sarcasm anymore?I'm an engineer from the University of Michigan, for God's sake.

(for all you kiddies out there, it's current *resistance = voltage)
