Has anyone put a shifter from a 240 into a D21?

I have a '97 HB with 5 speed (KA24E) and have found the source of my transmission leak. It is coming from a torn boot that covers the shifter. I took the shifter out and cannot see any way of just changing the boot (it will not fit over the pivot "ball" on one end, or the shaft on the other end).

I have a feeling a 240sx shifter will fit. The shifter plates are different (the 240 has 6 bolts and the truck only has 4) but maybe if only the shaft from the 240 is used it will fit? Hopefully I can find a 240 shifter cheap or free and try it. Let me know if you have tried this and it does not work.

I bought a B&M shifter for my 240 a few years ago and I am kicking myself for throwing the old one out during my last move...

Edit: Nevermind, I was able to replace the boot for my truck shifter.

will too. It just depends on the end of the shifter your using. You want the one with the longer snout. peace.

the b and m doesnt work, but the 240's stock stick works as well as other shift kits that just change the bushing and rod. i just found out this weekend, tried to install a bandm but it didnt fit cause the mounting plates are different

sorry i know this thread is a month old. but i know i can contribute useful information about this. and the answer to ALL your problems.

use an RB20DET shifter plate.

the story on how i figured this out:

im doing an rb25 swap in my 240sx, i needed a transmission and the only one i had laying around was an rb20 trans. but the shifter plate was missing. the KA trans i took out of the car was a 6 bolt plate.. luckily my uncle was a nissan master tech from like '83-'99 and he was also a hoarder that rebuilt hundreds of truck transmissions. he gave me a box of brand new parts, enough to rebuild a few ka transmissions. in the box was a brand new shifter plate, 4 bolt mount, with the 5th for the checkball. perfect! and the gasket to go with it. go to try it out and noticed my shifter wasnt engaging. then compared the two shifter plates. one is rought an inch higher than the other. crap. need to get a hardbody truck shifter. so now i need a truck shifter for my 240. cut it down and reweld it of course but it will work. online searching for a truck shifter, ran into this thread. month old with an unanswered question isnt too old imo.

so there you have it. although an rb20 det shifter plate might be rather hard to get a hold of. it will work. and of course once the motorset was in the car, everything sealed up, i find the missing rb20 plate with no nylon bushing inside. soo. if you need one i have an extra. just have to get 240sx shifter pivot bushing for it to work.

cheers.
