i was searching the forums, but I'm kind of confused. i have a 1996 240sx SE automatic, i want to do a 5-speed swap, i have ALL the parts, except for the trans, i have checked all of the local places which have s14 transmissions available, and they are either too expensive (over $600) or have defects (broken gears, scorched). I have ordered a transmission from one of the users on this froum and it came out to be a scammer (97katurbosilvia), i lost over $211 dollars because paypal changed its policy by which it can protect scammers from having to pay(they only recovered $14 for me).
I am picking up a free 1989 hatch which is mostly stripped, but it has a good transmission still in it, i was wondering if there is a way to make it work. From the JDS 5-speed swap DVD i have gotten the information that there is a way to make an s13 trans work in s14. Could someone give me a full explanation on how this would be done? The man on the DVD said that it is possible to drill out a hole on top of the bell housing for the crank position sensor, has anyone tried it? will this work good?
Another thing is the speed sensor, i will have to get the s14 manual trans speed sensor right?
The last question is if the drive shaft i have gotten would work, i bought a mint condition non-abs 5-speed drive shaft off of a 1998, my car is non-abs also, would this drive shaft work with the s13 trans?
thanks to all for their input.
