Just wondering if anyone could hook me up with someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to the world of ECU. I've done some searching on the fourm and only found "Emance" but I'm not hearing any good news about him.

If you've had your ECU tuned, please give me any advice you think would matter, I'm trying to set up for track by the way, what type of specs should we have here?

Well usually you get your ecu tuned for some reason other than wanting to go faster. When you get larger injectors or a different mass airflow sensor, you need a tune to compensate for the changes. I'm running an EFI Specialist tune in my car, but it's to compensate for boost and my 370cc injectors. The car may be a little faster than stock, but it's only because the fuel/spark maps have been cleaned up. I think JWT offers an N/A tune, but in my opinion it's a waste of money.

If you want to "tune" then get an SAFC and go to a dyno shop. They will put your car on the dyno and use the SAFC to lean out the fuel map a little bit. You might gain 2-3 hp.

If you are setting up for track then I would invest in suspension parts. A great suspension setup will be much more rewarding than a tuned ecu.

I have some upgraded parts, I just didn't want to heavily upgrade without the ECU for support, I mean what's the use of having 200HP if your ECU limits you to 150, you know?

That's what I've figured. Thanks for your reply though, your help is greatly appreciated.

How do I get rid of the stock limiters then?

Well, the ecu doesn't limit you to 150hp, it's the parts that you have that limit you to 150hp. It's pretty hard to get more than 180 out of an N/A KA with just bolt on parts. You won't need to upgrade the ecu until you have a need for bigger injectors, and you won't have a need for bigger injectors without some sort of forced induction setup.

People are making over 200 hp with a turbo and stock ecu. They are running FMU's to increase the amount of fuel based on boost.

As far as the limiters, you shouldn't have a need to pass redline, so I would keep the rev limiter. For the speed limiter, if it is really an issue then you can get an automatic ECU, they don't have speed limiters. I'm not saying you won't need it, but unless you are on a pretty big track I can't see anyone needing to go over 120 mph.

Oh you're right about that. Thanks a lot.
