Yeah, I had that happen when I actually had a shop do it, took me forever to figure out, I thought the miss meant it had stopped working again, couldn't imagine the shop doing it wrong, but eventually the gassy exhaust cued me in.
For what it's worth, it's good you got your smog check done already.... flooding like that must be horrible for the cat. Mine still seemed to work fine, but when I firsh got it runnig it bogged and made huge clouds of smoke, must have been full of liquid gas down there. Mine survived, but beware that it could have done damage.
As I recall from researching when I had this problem, this seems to be a common error that has literally caused many 240s to be scrapped in frustration.
