I just got a $79 Sony CDX-GT11W deck for my car. It has 4x50w PMPO and at 20 (max 34) the stock front speakers will crackle. So even the tiny 4x50w is over power for the stock speakers.

I went to Sound advice and listened to different ones, $149 ($169 MSRP) JL Audio speakers sound the best (loud and clear) for money, although there were better ones at $199.I walked back into my car and I felt like taking a bat at the stock fronts.

Thanks for the template. That's what I need for 6.5 JLs. What is the MDF you talk about?

I just got the 6.5" JL Audio TR-650CXi in the front. I saw 1/4" MDF boards at HomeDepot but I opted for 1/8" paper boards. It was the better choice. When I had some of the curring and drill holes a couple of milimeters off, I was able to modify it on the spot using a wire cutter and a screw drive. The paper boards were strong but thin enough to be cut easily. I covered the back of the speakers with plastic bag cut outs and duct tape.

Thanks for the reference pic. ^__^One thig to look out for is that one corner of the cut out circle in the middle is too close to the frame to drill speaker support hole.

Thanks MoldyOldy240 for darkening the lines. And I'm very glad a lot of you guys could save money and upgrade your sound system.

A lot of people that upgrade their speakers do not use the stock amp (aka. active sound system) which would be the fuse and wiring. Aftermarket speakers are much better overall. I've seen some guys who put components put the cross over in the door.

Always put the sub in the engine bay, it sounds the best, wedged near the stock airbox...

So I have a question. I have 2 s13's. A 92 and a 93. I tried to swap the ones from my 93 into my 92. However. The brace behind didnt fit. The 93 has power windows the 92 is manual windows. So if i were to put lets say 5x7's in a custom brace or whatever, would it fit behind the speaker, would there be enough room.??

If your making the plate from this thread then you'll have no problems fitting it in there.

I don't have the resources to actually cut out the plate myself, anyone know if Home Depot does it for you? haha!

I doubt that any home improvement store will do all those cuts. But what you can do is buy a dremel and the mdf and cut it out with the template then return the dremel. No harm no foul.

Sorry folks I never did get a chance to do the rears. Since then I have sold the car, but my friend does have an S13 coupe that I can use to mock up the rears for the 6x9 in the future.

Found this old post and wondered what size the large speaker hole for the mount drawing/graphics is supposed to be. I'm trying to ensure the holes line up, etc. Trying to make sure it is to scale. These are for the fronts right? Will it line up for the convertible doors?

Thanks in advance...JD

Cut out the outline that this template has and then cut out the inside to fit your speakers. Or you could just get a set of 6.5's and get a much better sound.

i feel bad for bringing this OLD thread back from the dead, but i am doing this within the next few days.

i got some JVC CS-V625 6.5" speakers for $30 BNIB and i couldn't pass up the deal. i also went to home depot and got some 1/4" MDF 2'x4' for like $5 as it was more sturdy then the hardboard they had..

my question is, instead of printing/cutting out the template, couldn't i just take the old mount for the speaker and trace the outside then cut the center out?

How about an 8" mid range? http://www.woofersetc.com/p457...r.htm

Those CDT's are subs and way to deep to mount in a door. The rainbows should fit great and sound awesome. You'll probably have to cut some of the sheet metal away and build a bigger plate to mount it. If you can set it up with the appropriate crossovers, midrange, and tweeter, you should come away with an awesome sound. I had a very similar set up in my old Integra using MB Quart speakers and it sounded awesome.

whoops good catch with the CDT! I meant to post their 8" mid-range they have, not the subwoofer. At least I got the rainbow one right.

I have a CDT Stagefront set up coming for my Z32http://www.woofersetc.com/p549...l.htmRunning off this amphttp://www.woofersetc.com/p683...r.htm

I would have loved to get a set of Rainbows but sadly my budget/income can not allow that Otherwise it would have been done! But I'll settle for 2 sets of components

umm i'd imagine? as long as you can fit it inside the template, it mounts, and doesn't hit the window, you should be good to go.

Jig saw or a hole saw would probably be the best bets.

I think we might have lost the image in the server switch a few months ago. I'll see what I can dig up for you.
