Ok, so I unplugged my speed sensor and tried to do a top speed run on the local abandoned highway. My friend with an old cop car paced me (super accurate speedometer). So I get passed the normal 122 mph governor (I have a J30 rear end that is a 3.92 ratio rather than the 4.08, so the speedo is off a little). At about 129 indicated I hit a SECOND FUXING GOVERNOR. We figure that it is either: A). a 5th gear rev limiter or B). a 5th gear calculated speed governor to take over if the regular one doesn't work (sons o' bishez). Has anyone ever heard of this or read of it or anything?? Thanks.

I think there is a rev-limiter on 4th and 5th.

there is a rev limiter in 4th at about redline and in 5th at 5000 rpms and the only way to get rid of it is new chip

5000 isn't quite right. I hit it at about 5300-5350. Can you tell me where you got this information. I'd like to read a little more about it, and I haven't found anything on it. Thanks.

Are you asking if they have a speed sensor in their transmission (yes they do) or if they have a governor (yes they also do at 112 mph, 180 km/h). The governor is built into the ECU though, not the speed sensor.

I've never noticed what the RPM's were when my governor kicked in, but the speed was barely off the speedo at probably 110-115ish. I'll buy an ECU someday, but rarely do I drive that fast...

...THAT fast, that is.

I second 240SXer. Where is the damn thing? and can you just dissconnect it or do you need to cut a wire going into the ECU or what??

I rarely drive that fast too it would just make me feel better to know I can go alittle faster then 115mph : (

The stock Tach can be off by over 600rpm's somtimes. I know I've seen 8k before and I was hitting a 7200rpm rev limiter.

The 4th and 5th gear both have lower rev limiters, you could always take off the gear sensor on the transmission (I think that's what I did, don't remember) and just have no reverse lights.
