Sorry, I orginally posted in the 240SX Technical Forum

I have a 1990 240SX and had a friend of a friend who is a mechanic do the following work:

Replaced all four fuel injectors, and install a new fuel filterReplaced the ClutchReplaced the Distributor Cap and Rotor, along with the wires and plugsReplaced all of the hosesReplaced the muffler. Only the muffler and tailpipeReplaced the valve cover gasket (Oil Leak)

When all was done, the car seems to be running rough, especially at idle. The problem is especially noticable at idle with the air conditioner on. Also the car is loud through the exhaust. No more strong gas odor.

Any ideas on the problem? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

crossed spark plug wires at the cap maybe. check to make sure 3 and 2 are not swapped on the distributor cap

Thanks. Is it easy to tell which wire on the Distributor goes to each spark plug. The only time I ever changed wires was by taking them off one at a time and replacing with the new wire.

If you have a nissan cap each cyl is labeled on the cap. check the number and follow it to the plug. If you dont have numbers the firing orde is 1342 at least 1 should be labeled on the cap.

Nistech, Thanks. The spark plug wires are in the right order. Any other ideas. Could the mechanic have put in a bad fuel injector? It's running real rough. The engine is bouncing all over the place in idle. This wasn't a problem before all of the work was done. Thanks in advance.

try wiggling the harness along the valve cover see if it effects the idle. also check your ground on your airflow meter should be less the .02v drop to ground.

valve cover gasket huh? did one of your ancient breather hoses crack up and the tech did not notice? thats common. dont ka24e's all run rough? mine sure did. what kind of parts did he use? for bouncy idle i usually check tps adjustment(esp after throttle body services), iac/aac adjustment, and intake leaks. possible injector not seated all the way. did you go over it with carb clean?

I don't know a lot about cars, but i was having the same problems with my car. it was running really bad, especially when in nuetral. Mine also burnt a lot of oil. oil was fouling out one of my spark plugs. i would have to take it out and clean it often. I was told it was my valve cover gasket.
