Originally short story when my problem came about. Was on my way to work one rainy day and the car was running rough, so thought I might be low on gas, since the fuel gauge doesn't read under 1/4. So I get gas and it won't start after, took about 15 tries to get it started, but kept wanting to die. I heel and toe it home and a friend, his dad and I rack our brains the next day trying to figure out what it could be.

We ended up getting it to start right up when we customized a clip for the MAF wire/clip with a paper clip, I lost the 2 metal pieces that held it on a while ago and it was pretty loose. Well 2 days later it started doing it again, so what we thought it was wasn't. My idle is pretty low, 500 rpm atm, since we put the distributor back in and timed it, and if it stalls after the 1st start, there's like a 50% chance of it starting the next try, then it's flooded like hell.

We/I can really smell the gas while trying to get it started all the times I've had this happen, which is like 5-6 times now We're guessing it's running extremely too rich while driving, and idling, causing the flooding. I don't believe it's the wet weather, it has done it while dry, but it's been raining SO much lately here it doesn't help. Sorry about the long post, hopefully someone can help me out, cause I don't like the possibility getting stuck somewhere, don't like how crappy/rough it's been driving, and don't like the crappy fuel economy this is causing me.

yes, I won't find it, it stays on extremely well with the paperclip though. I was refering to the metal pieces that holds it on as clips too. BTW, forgot to mention it's a 1991 with a KA24DE.

Have you checked the engine temp sensor and/or it connector for corrosion? Had the same problem with mine and this was the quick and easy cure. Do a search here as that is how I found the answer.
