Ok, so I've been gathering parts for a rb swap for a while now. I was hoping to get started on the swap this weekend... I took my timing covers off to start replacing stuff.. I want to replace my cam gears because they've got a nice amount of rust on them.

Here's where I run into a problem. My engine has vvt and so it has a extra cover on one of the gears. No one makes aftermarket gears for use with vvt and I've read that I'd have to find vvt compatible cams as well.. so I'm thinking that it might be best to remove the vvt system?

What all would this entail? And is it going to be the best route to go?

I'm not sure what is involved in removing the VVT, but probably like you said, removal of the cam, sprocket, and any related solenoid/oil feed hardware.

How rusty is the current stuff? Can you not just clean it up and use it?
