Hello, I have a stock (KA24E) 1989 240sx. I want to know how much better after market radiators are. Are there tradeoffs? Hard/easy install? Performance or reliability or both? Good affordable radiators? Thank you.

depending on what radiator you get, will determine how hard it will be to put it in. some cheaper off brand ones might not line up with mounting holes. Mishimoto is the way to go most likely or Koyo. you get what you pay for.

I just bought the cheapest (>$100) ebay all aluminum 2 row for my 93 s13 and it fit perfect and has not given me any issues yet. Install is easy. Remove the intake tube and top plastic fan shroud. There is a plastic ring attached to the lower fan shroud that you must remove. It's the piece that goes under the clutch fan. Once you unclip that from the rest of the shroud the radiator will slide straight up and out. Just have to unbolt the radiator (top and bottom/4 screws total. If its an auto I think you have trans lines in the way but in not sure on that. The 2 row looked too big at first but it fit great.

Anything will be better than OEM radiator, specially on a 25 yr old car.

I have a CXRacing radiator and fitment was perfect, I had to reuse the lower grommets but everything lined up as it should, even the a/c fan fit perfect. I did have to trim the radiator shroud (Dremel multi cutting bit) and the a/c fan needed a good bit of trimming as well since I wanted to keep the OEM fan clutch assembly.

Usually, the cheapest route to go with ordering online (aftermarket) is CX racing and Mishimoto. They're decent and prices aren't bad - there's also plenty of reviews on them. If you want to go even nicer there's Koyo and other brands.

If you want something dirt cheap, but are afraid of the risk of eBay, go to a local radiator shop/auto parts store and get something. That way if you get it, and it's a piece of s*** when you open it, you take it back.
