Ok well i will be getting my first car in about 2 weeks from my uncle he got me a 95 240sx with 120 miles on it.Its the regular model not the SE and its the green/blue metalic color. And he will deliver it to my house around july and he is only charging me $900 and the car is in super conditon and a clean engine i checked everythin out.

Ok buy anyways as soon as i get it i want to start dropping all my paychecks into the engine. But i need help i know a little about cars i guess but im having trouble with parts i want for it i need like basic knowledge on what the parts do and like what they do. Becuase i dont know of any parts that add horsepower to the car ( not saying its all about horsepower though). Like onlything i know of for the car is like exhaust system, cold air intake, headers, and thats it. I mean i know other parts but not what they do mainly im just looking for parts that add horsepower besides what i said. Then i was thinking about just putting a turbo system into my KA then people are like why buy all those other parts when they come with the kit. Then others say get a sr20det becuase its built for turbo and alot of psi. So i dont really know there both gonna cost me the same for a turbo kit and all is like 4000 then get it installed im looking at 4500 all together and the sr20det swap is about 3500 or so maybe higher for everything including installation. But yeah i am 16 and i just got my first job about 2 months ago and i make around 350 a paycheck so it should be somewhat hard for me to do this considering im still in school and have car insurance to pay and ****.But what would you people do in my posisition "a nice car and money, but dont have the brains to figure out what to do.So can you people please list some websites wih general knowledge on parts and what they do,or good places that offer 240sx parts besides the ones advertised on this site. So thank you for your time and help and dont be a jackass and **** about this post im just getting started with cars and **** and need a little help. you can email me if you want at [email protected]

i dont know what your exact money situation is, but my recommendation for the long run is to get some basic bolt ons to hold you over, then do suspension and brakes, then u can save for a swap later on. I recommend doing the swap last in line cause it often takes a substantial cache of money, and a well rounded car needs handling as well as power.

also before doing anything to your car clear up any issues you have with it. for example: rough idle, brakes squealing, timing chain, etc. If it runs good stock then its okay to proceed. If your car blows blue smoke and you put a turbo on it......may god have mercy on your soul.

Well I might be able to help. I got my 240 last year in Feb. and I was 17. I didn't know anything about cars and the best advice I can give you is to use the search button in the top right corner and read just like every thread we have ever had b/c that's how I learned. For like 2 months I would just come home and read threads so I could learn. That's the best way to learn. Then if you have any other questions, you can post. But just like p00t said go with suspension (springs and shocks/struts), and new brakes(upgrade to 300zx brakes, or just better pads and rotors or so on. Just read and you will learn, I promise. I hope this helped. By the way I have an Injen Intake on my car that I am wanting to sell, so I will sell it to you if you want. You can check it out at my website in my signature. Make me an offer and we will work something out, it looks brand new and it is only like 6 months old. Welcome to the 240 family and remember stay nice not rice.Josh

you know what i think you should do, get a civic instead.....and tell your uncle to sell that car to me for 900:) seriously, what they said sounds good /\ ,i wouldnt be looking foward to a swap anytime soon if i were you, take it one step at a time, and remeber, go into the swap with more money than your expecting to spend b/c you never know what might be/go wrong with the engine/engine swap...have fun and good luck, post up some pics of you ride when you get it

I'd try not to spend a dime on anything that won't be there after the swap. make sure your car is in exellent running condition, ie brakes, ball joints, bushings- take to a mechanic and have them looked at and lubed. then, try this, I found using the search button. (top of page) once the car is in order, you won't have to worry about spending money fixing it. maybe work a little on suspension, maybe brakes as you get closer to the swap, but the money you spend now will make it longer for the swap, so spend wisely!

Doing a swap early isnt bad at all in my opinion, do it while your still in highschool and its easy for you to bum rides off of people. Its good as a learning experience. I didnt now jack **** of how to work on cars until i got out in the garage and did it myself. You are going to need a crap load of money to do it though. So try and imagine yourself not spending money on anything but car parts and decide if your willing to starve for your car like me :D

BTW, i am only 18 and only have a Kmart toolset to work with so if i can do it, anyone with the willpower can too....

$350 a paycheck? how much do you make per hour? I wish I had that kind of money. well, I would, if I ever went to my job. jeese I havn't been there in like 2 weeks... but anyway.

I/H/E, replace mech. fan with electric = somewhere between $700 and $900, if you buy stuff. you could get by at like $600-$650. = gains = 10 hp, 15 at most.too many people do just this and stop there. if you looking for serious power, go all the way. there was a thread about this.. but back to it, I/H/E plus cams, ecu, pistons, port n' polish = I'm gussing another $1250 to $1750 = gains = with everything tuned right, you could go from 150 hp to like 175 -180 hp, depending on how much more compresion you got. clutch, pulleys, flywheel, ignition, fuel pump, injectors, new rods, blueprint and balance, bore it out, another $3000 $4500 easy. all in all, you'll end up with close to 200 hp, maybe over.so that would be like just over $7000 for like 50 hp. and that's it. it would be hella hard to get over that.orsr20det conversion. you could do it for $7000. = gains= 205 hp, or 210, depending which one you get. but... that's just stock. for another $1000, you could be at like 220 hp. ah, the glory of turbo'sorka24de-t. I guess around $3000. = gains = over 200 hp. you could build up the internals, and get a bigger turbo, and get 300hp. just depends on if you've got $6k laying around.orca18det, rb-series motors, 350 v-8's... it all comes down to money. and what you want. but more so money.

but as p00t and AJ-SPEC have said, make sure it's running in good condition with no probs. before you mod. and don't forget about brakes and suspension. won't be very fun when you can get to 60 in 5 seconds, but you can't turn or stop.

wow that was long.... 'yall yell at me if I got that wrong...

whoevers doing your car work is owning you hardcore lol.

do the sr swap yourself.. $2500. 205hp. make yourself an MBC... $15. 230-240hp.

you could build one HELL of a monster sr20 240sx with $7000 to blow on the car...

another thing, (unless its a turbo). if its a "bolt-on" mod.. dont expect much at all. to make any real hp, you gotta crack the engine open... then still, dont expect much.

new pistons, cams, header, intake, exhaust, port work, fuel system upgrade, ecu upgrade and valve train upgrade might put you around 200hp.. and it wouldnt be all that fun to drive around the street, and would be peaky.. and loud, and not pass smog, and would cost THOUSANDS...

for street car purposes.. just do intake/header/exhaust (under 500 if you know what you're doing) and cams (~400). you'll be quicker than nearly all imports on the road, but it wont be overkill, or obsurdly expensive, and you'll retain reliability.

yeah, I threw in a few extra bucks for having a shop do it for you, and replacing all the seals, gaskets, and fluids. and just in case anything else doesn't go right
