Hi, first of all, im new to this forum. Correct me if im wrong but it Looks like Nicoclub seems to be the biggest nissan forum around here. Perhaps someone can help me answer a few question about a problem i have with my 240sx.

First of all a little info about the vehicle.

1995 240SX SE. It's got about 92K on the motor. Motor is stock of course.

Anyway, I think my motor is running lean for some reason. It feels like its having a hard time getting up and going when i stop the pedal to the metal. Sometimes on the highway, it'll seem to loose power or dips in power and will start to gain power again.

I have already changed spark plugs and wires. That didn't make a change in its performance too. I did some research and this is what it says if i think that my engine is too lean.

Quote »A “Too-Lean Mixture” may be caused by:1. Insufficient fuel in tank2. Partially clogged fuel line 3. Insufficient air pressure in pressure fuel tank 4. Air vent on fuel tank clogged 5. Fuel filter or jets clogged 6. Carburetor float level too low 7. Water in carburetor or system 8. Air leaks in induction system 9. Sticking valves
Quote »A “Too-Lean Mixture” may be caused by:1. Insufficient fuel in tank - I know there's fuel in the tank2. Partially clogged fuel line - Not sure how to check this 3. Insufficient air pressure in pressure fuel tank - not sure how to check this4. Air vent on fuel tank clogged - not sure how to check this5. Fuel filter or jets clogged - not sure how to check this6. Carburetor float level too low - i don't have a carburetor, mines FI7. Water in carburetor or system - N/A8. Air leaks in induction system - not sure how to check this9. Sticking valves - not sure how to check this
Any thoughts on this?

Also, does anyone know how to clean dirty yellow headlights like these? If so, it'll be nice to get a few times on it please.

And how about weather strip renewal? My weather strip is losing its color (black of course) ..... its greying in. Does anyone have any advice on how to renew this? I thought of painting it again since it's gotten so grey. Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys....will

Welcome

1. Almost sounds like your clutch could be slipping...if you are shifting into gear and get those symptoms. If you are worried about being lean, you could hook up a wideband or get the car dyno'd at a place that will also show a/f ratios.

2. Unfortunately my work blocks images, but if the headlight is hazey then a quick fix is to wax on/off metal polish. Just DON'T touch the paint and realize that this will only last a handful of months before returning. I think there's threads on how to permanently fix it...something about wet sanding and spraying with clear coat or something. Search for it and you may find it if you are looking for a permanent fix.

3. I don't know, Nissan's weather stripping sucks and is stupid expensive. I don't know how good paint on rubber will stand up or look.

the power loss thing is my problem too. maf (it seemed fine but who knows), tps,egr all checked fine. replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, oil change, dist. cap and rotor, ran seafoam, and cleaned the fuel pump sock with car cleaner. the power loss is less pronounced then before but still there at times

yet to do is check the knock sensor (paint is the *** to remove), replace spark plug wires and also the o2 which im going to do today.

I didn't know a clutch can cause that problem. And yes, the clutch is slipping quite a bit now. What's an average cost to replace a clutch at a shop? And what should i get if i want performance? Sorry im quite new to upgrading things on my car....

help appreciated.

Thanks

if you have the space and a day you can do the clutch replacement yourself with a buddy. the money you save you can get a nice heavy duty clutch that will last you a bit longer and will grab harder.

pcv is a ridiculous PITA to replace for a $5 part

I personally don't think upgrading a clutch w/o having increased power is worth it unless you're constantly doing clutch dumps or regularly beating on it.
