i recently purchased a 240sx that has been swapped from a auto to 5 speed. its an 89 with the oe sohc. the trans was rattling/whining when the clutch was out and the not when pressing on it. when put in reverse it mad a horrible racket sounded like hard metal on metal hitting. i pulled the transmission and it appears to have a new carrier bearing and the front part of the driveshaft was recently shortened. with the car on jackstands the slip yoke is all the way into the transmission. i understand it has a rear irs that im not used to wroking with and thats why im asking. could any movement in the center section be killing the trasmission? what trasmission will interchange?
