it's been pouring down around here the past week, and i hope that this is fixable.

i didn't notice anything for 2 days after, i went through a puddle in the road, about as deep as the bottom of the car (maybe 9 inches)it was either drive through it, or turn around and go 4 miles back down the road and take the expressway which currently has 2 lanes shut down and be really late for work.

that was like 4 days ago, and now this started

my temperature gauge sometimes climbs a little higher than normalwhen i press my brake, it like jumpsmy transmission seems to be shifting different (auto)...it shifts quicker and harder.at night, i noticed that the lights flicker a bit

so...am i screwed or what?anybody any suggestions?

they're both dry (the one by the airfilter and by the batt)...i just let the car warm up and drove it around a bitsometimes when i'm braking it goes all the way up (temp)sometimes when i'm driving it goes all the way up by itself, and when i brake it goes back down to normal temp

i wonder if it's the coolant temp sensor, thats what sends that temperature in the dash right? or is that the cylinder head temperature?

never drive through puddles! , water+cars=bad......I'm sure your boss would understand your situtation, but check all your sensors, unplug them and spray them with starting fluid, it will soak any moisture and put it back together.

I think there's a bigger issue than the temp gauge climbing and stuff. It's the "uh oh" for the title. Now not to nit-pick (actually yes, this is to help other members that search for solutions related to their problems so I don't have to go emo with a Hawthorne Heights CD and a box of razor blades after answering the same question 73 times a week but I think you catch my drift at this point. Especially since I like to live and don't really find emo to be my cup of tea but might end up that way if this keeps up) but there is a sticky at the top of the 240sx tech and also on the Nissan Online Mechanic that states pretty much the same thing. LOL.

With that said now for something completely different.

1. Define climbs a bit higher than normal. It going up to the second to the top most bar or something or does it rise up ever so slightly?

2. Brakes jump? Not exactly clear on this either. Describe the problem and what you're doing when it occurs.

3. The harder shifts and the alternator flicker could be related to some damage done to your lower harness from the water. I'd try to let the car dry out especially at the transmission area.

by the way what year is this car?

1991 240sx...ka24de

1. it goes from normal temperature, sometimes rises slightly. often clicks directly to about an inch over the highest temperature (way off the scale)i now noticed it doesnt happen just when braking, but when driving as well w/o touching the brakes. this happened last night (headlights probably did it)

2. when the brake lights go on, i think it's the power use that causes it.

3. transmission. i was thinking that possibly the AT solenoid got wet and shorted or something. and with the alternator, maybe the voltage regulator shorted.

hey does anybody think it could be the voltage regulator on my alternator???if it's putting too much power out, couldn't that affect the way the sensors work?i have another alternator and got the day off so i'm gonna try swapping it and while i'm down there i'll check all the wire connections to the transmission and stuff

check your oil color. If its blackish, change it ASAPIf water gets inside your transmission it will destroy it.Change oil and filter, be sure to drain the cooling lines too.

holy crap guystheres a ground wire coming off the back of the engine and it's a little clip onto the chassisthat was the ****in problemhow the ****?!?!?i cleaned the connection on it, and added an 8guage wire as a backup ground as well

took my alternator up to my dad's aircraft shop and blasted it with this cleaner, it took the oil off it (just fixed my front seal) and tested it (works)did an oil change

car is running great again
