whats up guys,

i recently just bought my 2nd 240sx from an old man who just decided to stop driving it. My first 240sx unfortunately was totaled in an accident about 3 years ago  #and have been in search for another one ever since . My 2nd 240sx had been sitting in his driveway for about 4-5 years without starting it up occasionally and has about 200k miles on it. (Before he had let it sit he had basic maintenance done to it including the water pump, fuel pump plugs wires etc...) As all 240sx owners know unfortunately too well the first thing i did was look underneath it for any signs of rust on the frame rails. NONE! there was minor rot behind the front tires on the engine bay but nothing that couldnt be welded up and fixed. The first things on my to do list was obv change the oil and give it another full tune up and just like that she started right up like a champ no issues at all. I just registered it and got it back on the road and have been occasionally driving it around town just to ease her back onto the road. A few things that I am starting to notice is..
1) the radio light up, but wont turn on.
2)and the driver side seat belt retracts FWD and back when it wants to

I want to eventually build her up into a beast but for now i just want to get it back to a daily driver condition until the funds are available for bigger things. I will need little things such as a new driver seat, passanger side mirror glass and rear plate lights as of right now. Im pretty much just looking for some advice or any opinions at this point on how to move foward with her without causing any damage and preventative measure since it is an older car with a lot of miles. everything and i mean everything is completely stock and has never been in an accident lol for a car that has just started for the first time in 5 years shes runs pretty smooth. this is my new baby and i plan on treating her that way untill the time is right but like i said any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

Check all your rubbers first thing.. fuel, coolant, and vacuum, all could easily suffer from dry rot. Change out your fluids too. Check all the suspension components for grease fittings and grease as necessary. The radio may just be shot, its quite old, if its factory. Is your dome light set to come on when you open the door, is it flickering when the seat belt is acting up? Oh, and enjoy your new 240!

Ok cool. Yea every fluid in the car should be new by this weekend and so far all the rubber surprisingly looks ok. As far as the door and the dome light... The light comes on when either door opens and the passenger seat belt moves when it should but for some reason the drivers side belt works only once in a blue moon lol fuses are all fine as far as I can see. Would rather not start takin apart the belt motor If I don't have too you know? Thanks for the input man

It probably wont be the belt motor, its either the switch at either end of the track is gummed up or the controller needs replaced. you can get to the switches by removing the plastic cover, should just pop off. The controller unit is located under the center console behind the ash tray.

As much as i hate dealerships take it to them for the seartbelt... s13s have a LIFETIME seatbelt warranty.

100% correct. Lifetime warranty mandated by Federal Govt covers all owners.

They will argue, swear, threaten and finally cry to try to get out of it.

Ask for the General Manager, and tell him you will immediately report them for violation of Federal statutes related to safety devices, and you will contact a lawyer to sue due to the unsafe operation in violation of Fed and state motor vehicle laws that they are forcing you to commit if they do not shut the hell up and fix the fuvking belts.

Can you tell I had to do exactly that once? I recorded the entire conversation on my phone. That dealer was and still is pissed at me. I go to the other local one now.
:rotfl

Edit: BTW I think a salvage title might let them wiggle out of it, depends on the state.

check the window amps in the doors, they have a tendency to go bad and can usually be fixed with a soldering iron.

For sure. I have been looking into different suspension options and was told KYB has a pretty solid set set up and a good for the 240. I don't want to lower it a great amount with springs or anything because the roads by me are pretty horrible lol good looks on the advice
