I drive an SR20DET 240sx and frequent the RWD SR and 240sx forums but I was reading up on the Versa and was hearing a problem with it not losing revs after shifts. Now as regards a comfortable daily drive that is a problem but if I understand the problem correctly this would be kind of like automatic rev matching which is an amazing thing performance wise and I'd welcome it. Someone clarify this please.

I have a 240sx fastback with sr20det and also the Versa base model 6SPD. The drive by wire throttle is very different than the throttle response from the 240. It has a few miliseconds in lag from when you press it down all the way, and even if you floor it, the electronic throttle control doesn't open the throttle body 100% until it reaches a certain speed or some crap. Daily driving it's fine and fun, I can start off in 3rd, 4th gear with no problems most of the time at a light.(slow but still doesnt sputter crazy like trying to start the 240 from a roll in 2nd, but yea yea drivetrain loss wah wah wah).

Anyway, the 6SPD is awesome and all, I love it. Now if you are going to be doing a lot of highway driving, I highly suggest you get the automatic or CVT transmission because the 6spd transmission is very short gear ratio'd and anything above 60mph is wasting a lot of gas for me.

Hmmm. My sister is selling her Versa and I'm thinking about buying and FI'ing it. But what really is the skinny on that "flaw" where revs aren't lost?

its not really a flaw, i think its just the way the car is, plus its probably an overly heavy flywheel to begin with but I don't know how much it weighs yet so don't quote me on that one.. they are very nice cars, i love mine, just sucks that after daily driving the versa and then switching back to the 240 I try going from 4th to 6th and end up 4th to GRIND (reverse) on the 5spd transmission lol

the versa weighs 2770lbs, and it is a CVT transmission meaning that it is not run by gears... its run by pulleys that continusly adjust to get the most power out of the system system...

I dont know how much power the system can handle, but it would be great if it could handle some pretty decently high numbers...

They were referring to the weight of the flywheel, and they're talking about the 6spd manual transmission, not the CVT.

Funny you mention this, I've caught myself trying to go into reverse on my Versa the traditional 5 speed way (all the way to the right, and back) a few times..

I'm sure I'm not the only one..

The holding rev's phenomenon can be annoying at times, but its easy to adapt to. No doubt that it does nothing for your clutch, but it makes the Versa one of the easiest manual transmission cars I've ever driven.. So easy its actually borderline boring..
