Hi,

I'm new. I don't know much about cars, but I like the look of the 240sx. I've been talked out of buying one by several people.

I can get an Automatic 1992 240sx for $2200

Here is the listing...

4 cyl., auto, 2 dr., with hatchback, 4 wheel steering, pw, pl, sunroof, cruise, tilt steering, undercoated. Emission tested, needs brakes to safety.

I'm TOLD never to by Nissan because when you need it fixed you'll pay $$$$$, which is something I'm not interested in as my funds are at a minimum. It says this one needs brakes to safety, I don't know what else.. but I could wind up buying a car for 2200 that will cost me 5500 to make it even close to driveable.

I don't like the fact that these are so expensive to fix, and please remember, I don't have 500,000 extra sitting in a bank account like some people out there.

I doubt anyone here is sitting on a giant pile of money they can use to fix up their car all willy nilly. And Maintenance isn't too much. It depends on what you need done, how well you want it done and who you go to. Everything costs money, you just gatta work hard and keep at it till what you want is done.

My word is buy it. you can always add a manual transmission down the line. Compare what you think the 240's mods will cost to a newer car's mods...There you go.

Hi, welcome to nico! Um on your car can you give me some more info. And where exactly do you get 5500 before driveable from. I am 16 years old and drive a 96 240. I haven't found a part that broke my wallet yet. But basically, the 240 is a very reliable, fun car. You'll really enjoy it. But on the car you found, that is an s13 and the things you need to look for are: Rust at shock towers/brackets, and if the car has a spoiler, that is a foam spoiler. A very bad design on nissans part. It rusts where the spoiler mounts to the hatch. But other than that i would say listen for timing chain noise(check out the thread about this here:zerothread?id=105618) in the front of the engine. Also check for smoothness and all in the engine and transmission. But if you can answer ymy questions at the top of my post, I can help you out more. And good luck! feel free to post with anyore questions! I will monitor this one to check too see if you have any ?'s

What's the attraction to 5 spd? I been looking for Automatic only! I don't want to be shifting all the time. I've never driven 5 spd and I know people say it's nothing to "learn" but maybe I don't want to learn, I really don't think shifting all the time while I'm driving is something i'd like, I'd be more annoyed quite honestly.

Japanese cars are known for their reliability and the 240sx is no exception. Parts MAY cost more than domestics, but they hold up much better. If you want to see expensive parts, look at European (German!!) cars.

Sounds like a good deal. Especially if you want to keep the auto. Most guys (as you can see) dont want an automatic 240sx. I think the 240sx is a good purchase for a younger guy or someone on a tight budget. You can enjoy the car without breaking the bank. As you get more money, you can start modifying it into exactly what you want.

Well most 240 drivers look at the car for performance and a 5 speed is more reliable, better gas mileage and its faster! So its really a choice. If you just want to cruise with no hassle and speed not being a factor, an auto is definately the way to go! But your car sounds like a good deal, just be sure to check for rust spots as i mentioned in my earlier post. Good luck with that new 240!
