I just spoke with the AMS officials once again, they're tired of me promising them there's more money coming, especially when there isn't. I have no choice but to cancel the event at AMS completely. I really didn't want it to come to this, but the total lack of interest has killed it from the start. There's no chance of filling the spots in the time we have left, and no way the money will drop out of the sky. Our balance is still very substantial, but if I cancel now I won't owe the remaining portion. I'd like to hear thoughts on what people would like to do, I still have the hotel's banquet room reserved for Saturday, we can still have the swap meet and do the mountain run, or does anyone even care at all at this point to show up?

I'm waiting on word about the deposit that was paid, some of it *may* be refunded, but it's unlikely it will all be returned so I'd ask everyone to bear with me while I come up with the money to pay everyone back.

An email will be sent to everyone who has paid as well with more information regarding payments.

You people who have slacked, thanks, you're the best. And for those who have frowned upon the idea of having the convention "too far" away from you, you're a bunch of *****es.

THANKS!!!

Hey, up yours, both of you.

This is the second thread I've seen here in NICO meets that was extemely condescending and/or yelling at the whole bunch of us.

I'm not driving my car 2000 miles for a 3 day event, no matter what. And I'm sure that 95% of the people on this half of the U.S. would agree.

It's just too far away, and Georgia isn't exactly the "hub of the import scene." Have a regional meet and quit complaining about the people who can't make it. You think us California or the people up North can just take 2 weeks off of work? Lets see, 3 or 4 days of driving each way, 3 day event, then another 3 or 4 days.

No.

EDIT: It is a shame it had to be cancelled, but, like I said... (see above).

Nah, its cool. I know what an enthusiast is. Its just, some of us aren't as dedicated as others.

Oh, let me get this straight, EVERYBODY in California who would love to go, but just realistically cannot is "not dedicated."

Please. I challenge you to prove that you are more dedicated to your car or your meets than anybody else.

If you knew me personally, you'd understand that I'm dedicated. Russ, where you at? Anytime anyone around here says that they're going to do something, I'm there. Hell, I've wrecked my car twice and gotten it fixed (extensive damage). The first time, I had to shell out $4k from my own pocket to get it fixed. Oh, and next year, count on me being in Vegas or wherever the hell its going to be.

I take serious offense to this. Yes, you're correct, Georgia is NOT the hub of the import scene, and we're glad it's not. The import scene SUCKS complete ***. We do not want to be associated with highschool rice kids ever, but the NOPI Nationals are here every year, which is huge. There are plenty of East Coast enthusiasts, but unfortunately the ecomony this year has been off, several other track events all over the country are running with open spots too. Do NOT blame this lack of interest in the fact that there are no Eastern people who care, there are PLENTY. No, we don't live in LA with every manafacturer in our backyard, but I'll be damned if you're going to say we don't have any support or anyone worth a damn on our side of the nation. How many West Coast people showed interest? How many of them mailed me with concerns of not being able to make it? NONE.

Hmm... you must rate high on the dedication scale. From SoCal, Me, Anand, and Brian are at every meet, no matter what. When Anand wanted to install his LSD, who was the first to volunteer help? So where does that rate on the dedication scale?

OK, since when did the amount of money that you have in your pocket determine your dedication level?
JeromeS13 wrote:Oh, and next year, count on me being in Vegas or wherever the hell its going to be.

Tight, if it's in Vegas, I'll see you there! Vegas is do-able, I don't have to take a gang of time off of work.

Ahhh, I forgot. I live in SoCal, that must mean I am a ricer and/or want to be/am associated with ricers.
R240NA wrote:but unfortunately the ecomony this year has been off

Yet you still feel the need to come onto NICO and who knows what other forums, to criticize and point the finger at other people.
R240NA wrote:How many West Coast people showed interest? How many of them mailed me with concerns of not being able to make it? NONE.

Probably for the exact same reasons I already said. Not many people can just take 2 weeks off of work. I already said I would love to go, but it's not financially possible or smart for me to go.
R240NA wrote:Do NOT blame this lack of interest in the fact that there are no Eastern people who care, there are PLENTY.

When did I blame any lack of interest? I know there are plenty of East Coast people who will or would have been in attendance. But you are going to have a HARD time getting West Coast people. One, because it is a LOONG *** drive and Two, because SoCal people are used to having events in our backyards.

Now are you going to keep digging your grave or are you going to admit it was wrong of you to scold everybody like you are so obviously doing?

You said "I challenge you to prove that you are more dedicated to your car or your meets than anybody else."

What does you hanging out with your cali buddies have to do with me? Sure, you hang out, as do I.

This has NOTHING to do with the amount of money in my pocket (which is nothing). This has to do with love of my car. Most people would just say f u c k it and sell it.

I'll probably have to take a decent bit of time off work, but I'll do that because I WANT to hang out with people I've never met before.

wow, what a pissing match...

Sucks that it was cancelled, but I can't go because of the reasons that Ryan pointed out. Plus the wife got a new job and her vacation is not available yet.

And that's totally cool with me: you having different priorities. You're more dedicated to your family than the group. I'm not trying to make it sound like a negative thing, I'm just trying to prove a point of what you're dedicated to.

You spoke of working on cars and going to meets.

I fail to see the difference.

My wife is 7.5 months pregnant and I made plans to go to the convention and the hyperfest at the end of next month.

I think I am still going to roll down to the convention. I will just be able to pack lighter. I will not bring my track ****. Just me and my car.

Come on guys. Keep this positive. We are a small group. I don't know many of you well but there is going to be no good in fighting over this.

I didn't scold anyone. You misread something, or added words that weren't there. I took offense to your statements, that's it. If you can't make it, fine. Where did I point the finger that YOU were responsible? I didn't.

Another good reason why I don't post on NICO forums anymore. People make way more assumptions, and TRY to instigate a fight. The 'dedication' to anyone else is sorely lacking. I've made my comments, I'm done with this.

some of you guys are being WAAAAAAAY to serious here. Its not anybodys fault that it fell through, if the interest is not there, its not there, and there is nothing you can do about it. Hell, im a HUGE car nut but its not on the top of my list of importance.

I hope you guys still have a good turn out and have a fun time. :)

Whoa Whoa Whoa!

Let's calm down a little bit guys. I think that EVERYONE can see both sides. Bud, we all agree that 2000 miles is an unrealistic drive in most cases. Jerome, I'm terribly sorry that your meet fell through. I think we can all sympathize with Jerome and others planning on this event. It's never good to have something like that cancelled but that does NOT give us the right to berate anyone. We're above that here at NICO!!

Have a great day,

Nick :thumbup

I say everyone give Russ a Break here. I was on the committee for the Convention last year. And even though it was in a very accessible location for a lot of 240's, it was still a lot of hardwork and was stressful with so many uncertainties. I organized the Hotel arrangements and very few signed up until the very end. We had a minimum to reach and had a deadline to meet it. And consider, I was under contract to meet the minimum or it was coming out of my pocket. I'm sure Russ was under similar arrangements. It is certainly a challenge trying to host the convention in Atlanta. I'd certainly be there if uncontrollable monetary issues did not come up. I had even reserved a week of vacation before and after the event. I do know there are several in socal who want to go and probably several who had. And last year, there were several who treked all the way across the country to make the meet. Last year 34 members out of the nearly 130 people who showed were from out of state. Considering such a large number of california 240's and such easy access, I'd say those that did come from out of state did show a lot of dedication.

Russ, I am sorry to hear about all this. Wish I could have made it out. But regardless, you stepped up and took on this very large responsibility. So big props to you and all those helping organize the event(Frankie, Wazneezi, etc.). And I am especially sorry for all those on the right coast that wanted this event so bad. Last years event was so far to the west, it was a hard drive to make. I'm sure it's not so different the other way around, but I would have hoped it would have been better than it did turn out considering all the complaints we heard last year about it being in Cali.

I would have loved to drive at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

I would have loved to have gone, and my priorities do not entirely revolve around my family. It is just that my wife also really wanted to go and we were going to because at the beginning of the summer she was unemployed and we were going to go to Colorado for mountain roads and Georgia for the convention. But then she got a PHAT job making boo koos of money, but the catch is that she will not have any vacation time available until after she has worked there for six months. Therefore whe had to sihtcan both the colorado trip and the georgia trip.

However, if it is in Vegas next year, count us in :D

Ryan... calm down there buddy...

Listen guys, I am truley sorry that the meet s cancled.

BUT as Ryan mentioned.. even thought we are very dedicated, a lot of us can not take the time to drive out there...

I have a wife, a house, and a dog to worry about... Dedication is one thing, priority is another... MONEY and TIME is a big factor of them all..

Let's not jump on each other and just calm down.... I am really sorry to hear of the meet but you can't say that we are all **tches because we say it's too far away...

please guys, just calm down and talk it out.. we are all adults here...
