First of all, I just moved to Minnesota(Minneapolis area), so if anyone knows of a good Nissan salvage yard around here, please let me know. Second, I'm wondering if there's a bit more powerful motor I can put in this thing. I'm just looking for a straight drop in replacement or conversion. It's an '89 240SX, and it's the 4 cyl 12 valve. I don't yet know the engine model number, so maybe you guys can fill me in on that too, eh? My old motor has a bad rod, unfortunately. :( I've always loved this car, and I'm definitely going to drop a new(used) motor in it. It needs to come back to life! :ylsuper

All suggestions and advise will be appreciated. Thanks. ;)

your engine is the KA24E (89-90) 91-98 is the KA24DE D=dual over head cam. you can swap in the DE it has an extra 15hp but you need other things with it ECU, harness, power sterring lines. do a search there are threads about this kind of stuff

Well crap! I don't really want to get into swapping ECU and harness. I just need to get the car running again. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time or the patience for any real mods, unless it's a drop in. I guess I'll have to go with the same motor. How do these puppies perform with a mod ECU chip and a turbo? I really must do something about that freaking 116MPH speed limiter too. That drives me crazy! :pface

good luck trying to find a KA24E in decent shape.

you'd be better off rebuilding the one you have.

Yeah, that's big bucks though. I'm hoping I can find a used one with half decent miles. Maybe I'll look into just getting the bottom end done. Everyone wants $2500 and up to rebuild from start to finish. I don't really have the equipment to do it, myself. :(

Well, so far, I've found one with 70K for $500. Not bad, I hope. I'm not sure what shipping will cost yet though.

the 98 had the same amount of torque as the rest of the DOHCs.

if you rebuild the engine with cheap parts it won't cost much.

It needs rods and a crank. I really don't have the time or the equipment to do it, otherwise I would. You know....engine stand, ring compressors, I'd have to send everything to a machine shop, rent an engine hoist twice....etc. I'd much rather just do it once and get it over with. Old motor out...*BAM*...new motor in. Done.
