i was just wondering what the differences between the 240sx models year 91-95 are. theres the LE fastback, SE Coupe, SE Fastback, and just the Coupe, and Fastback.

What makes one 240sx a fastback and the other a coupe?so far the only thing i know is that the SE fastback is the one with the most standard features.

oh yah and daunt, i ran a search for the thread about why engine swapping is illegal and i couldnt find it. what word should i put in through the search?

This forum hasnt had as much time to build a database for searching, however if you go to Freshalloy.com and run a search i would think youd find something.

As for the models, 1995 was the dawn of the S14's which were completely different than the 1989-1994 S13's. In 1994 they only made the 240 in a coupe convertable. The difference between the two is the taillights and the rest of the rear quarter panel of the car. The 1991-1993 Fastback SE's were also the only ones that you could get with the Super Hicas option.

As much as I am on 24/7 I don't always see every thread. My setup on the forum is messed up, so it always stays yellow as in theres a new message, so I never know if there is ACTUALLY a new message or not so sometimes I miss threads.

It started out for the SOHC that the XE was the coupe and the SE was the hatchback. Then, it came to be that there was a Standard Coupe and SE coupe, as well as a Std Hatch, SE Hatch, Limited Hatch, and LE Hatch. The Limiteds had every option but were extremely rare. The SE could be had with any option but leather, the LE could be had with any option but it always had leather, and the Std was standard.

Then came the 95+, theres a base and a std. For a bit at the end there was also a LE. Same rules applied.

In Canada the SE is the base model and the LE is the model with options.

Super HICAS is a system that controls steering to allow better handling, only the S13s had HICAS, but in those years it sucked most people who have HICAS either disable it or sell it to someone who actually wants it. The S14s got awesome updated HICAS in Japan, but we never got HICAS for the S14s over here.

Hmm, I don't know what to search for but I"ll say it again.

JDM engines are illegal by Federal Mandate. Every engine must be DOT and EPA certified no matter how clean it is or what not, it needs certification. Its also illegal to swap an engine older than the model year of the vehicle it is going into. It is still illegal, but doesn't matter unless you are in an area where they do emissions because there is no way to get caught otherwise, which is why people don't care. However, if you are somewhere where they do emissions, you can pass the sniffer with low boost and a cat, but you'll fail the visual inspection and/or smog. Its a huge fine.

The reason that some JDM engines can be put in and be perfectly legal is because they have USDM counterparts, unfortunately the SR20DET, CA18DET, and RB series have no USDM counter-parts. Sure, theres the CA18DE and the SR20DE, but they are not the same engine.

Anything else I can help you with?

Also, this would probably get more coverage in the General Chat area, which is why you didn't get any responses here.
