I just recently bought myself a 98 240sx SE, and I just wanted to ask you guys what kind of fluids you use. Like brake fluid, trans fluid, rear diff fluid, etc.
As well what are some common issues I may need to check for, and any other maintenance advice is very welcome.

My 240sx is bone stock 5 speed.

For the engine, I like to use 5W50 synthetic, or 5W40.

Transmission, GL4 75W90, Redline MT90 is magic sauce for our cars.

Differntial, stick in any GL5 Synthetic 80W90, well you can use different grades depending where you live. The FSM has a graph showing you what can be used at what temperatures.

Brake, anything DOT 3 or 4...or 5.1, NOT DOT 5!

And for coolant, Prestone green will do.

Check for rust around the strut towers, remove the inner fender liner and take a look in there as well, especially towards the rockers where all the dirty and grime likes to sit.

Also check the area above the muffler. You can't really check for rust on these cars, they rot from the inside out...

Thanks for the advice.

I just cleaned the car and checked for rust. So far I have not seen any on the inside

It's all in the FSM but GL-4 gear oil is the only gear oil to use for the trans. I prefer amsoil myself, but redline is fine, you wont find GL-4 at the local store though

I found GL-4 at my local Advanced Auto Parts store. It's not common, but they sometimes have it. They had a couple bottles of Lucas Oil and Valvoline.
